Remarks

the department management does get lackadaisical sometimes. Complaints are sometimes not paid attention to but overall, the staff is good.

Entrance Preview

JMI conducts its own entrance exam for various courses it offers, just like other institutes offering M.A (Economics) course do.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Masters course in Economics does not make it mandatory for students to write thesis. Instead, there is a software training subject in the 3rd semester wherein students are taught latest economic softwares. But JMI does publish papers of its students if it finds it good enough.

Placement Experience

3

There is a placement cell which is mostly student run which takes care of the internships and placements. the number of companies vary depending upon the work and efforts of the students placement cell in being able to pursue companies to the campus for recruitment and internships, till now Ken research, RIS, india infrastructure etc have been the most consistent recruiters.

College Events

4.5

There are many seminars (international academicians keep visiting all the time!), departmental fests, Taleemi mela, etc etc. Many opportunities are given to students to learn, they are sent to off campus seminars as big as Delhi Economic Conclave etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since JMI is a central university, the fees is very less as compared to other institutions. For masters program in economics, it is INR 7100. Other masters program's fees may differ in the second year though, the fees is reduced to around INR 6400.

Campus Life

4

Despite of being a minority institution there is no discrimination whatsoever on the basis of gender, religion, or caste etc. it is just like DU. there are farewell parties, freshers parties, departmental as well as college fests. there is full freedom of expression of thoughts.

Hostel Facilities

4

Not everyone can avail the hostel facility. Only outstation students who have a local guardian can apply for the same. An interview of the local guardian is taken and the final merit list is released. The hostel costs INR30,000 per annum including mess, electricity etc. the Food is very hygienic and tasty. To ensure a balanced diet, a food chart is followed through out the week. There is curfew time for girls. but they can be late sometimes taking permission from their warden and their local guardian.

Alumni/Alumna

An alumni meet is held almost every alternate year. The pass outs are dedicated and ever ready to help the college as much as they can by providing job opportunities, donations etc.

Exam Structure

There is semester system for both bachelors and masters programs. there is cgpa grading system to mark students. Also, there is a compulsory attendance requirement of 75%. The professors are a bit moody, but the schedule is not that hectic. hectic only for those who travel from a distant place everyday. also, only 4 days are working days, generally friday, saturday and sundays are off.

Admission

The forms are usually out about 2 months before the conduct of the exam, but this varies from college to college. The notification for the release of admission forms can be checked by visiting JMI's site. The forms can be filled online and payment too can be done online. After clearing the entrance exam on merit, students are alloted dates on which they could submit the fees. students in waiting list may or may not be called for admissions later depending on the seat availability.

Faculty

2.5

the faculty is good in the sense that the professors are highly experienced and scholarly. they take keen interest in the activities of the department and the staff is very courteous. The professors's performance is so important to the faculty that the Department of Economics gets a form filled by students at the start of first semester exams which asks to rate teachers' performance in various aspects.

I have always held that the training I recieved during my masters programme prepared the grounds for my future development. The teaching pedagogy was centres around participation and a two way dialogue. I am not in the capacity to be suggesting improvements in curriculum as my stint in the university was almost perfect- more than I could have ever asked for.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is well designed by the renowned professors and faculty members from different universities in India and from abroad as well. The content was choosen keeping in mind to cover all the aspects of the specific subject for a pg student. As I mentioned before, the quality of study material was very good and helpful and very enough. But the pg thesis is missing from our course, due to which we were not able to do a research project. It appears to me after the completion of my first year that we can do our research under our given faculty but it wasn't mentioned in the course structure as it is mainly upto our faculties.

Course Curriculum Overview:

For the course i must say that this is something everyone needs to study about even if it's for just a part. We have ethics, moral, cultural relativism and etc. In our syllabus and it all really help to make our thinking rational, to see World from that point of view from where one can see the clarity. It's really necessary for improvement in personality and making good decision. I think there's need for making this course more practical like teaching, we can teach students about essentials of philosophy for there betterment of decision making from an early age.
