Remarks
Eligibility to get into BBA (Honours) in Scottish Church College is to pass 12th or other equivalent exams with more than 50% marks. The application form is available on the college website after they bring out a notification for admission to UG courses. Application fees vary but are usually less than Rs 500. Merit list is uploaded to the website after completion of application date and admissions are done according to the merit list generated from 12th scores. Reservation is available for SC, ST, OBC and also Christian minorities. Usually, the cut-off marks for general category students are 90%. GD and PI should be conducted before admissions to screen better candidates and not just someone with higher grades in higher secondary.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose to study BBA because I wanted to pursue MBA later on. But the course curriculum of BBA under the prescribed syllabus of the University of Calcutta is very backdated and not at all adaptive with modern day requirements. There are 8 professors who teach various subjects to all the semester classes of around 40 students each. The professors are well educated but except for one, the rest do not know the art of teaching. Their methods of teaching online during the pandemic are worse and meagre use of available technology to increase ease of learning. Even in offline classes, they mostly teach in a boring manner and nobody pays much attention in the class as a result. All semester exams and internals are taken in due time and in a proper manner maintaining all the rules and strictness. As the course in itself isn't very difficult, hence anyone studying for standard time will pass the exams without worries.
Fees and Financial Aid
The course fees for BBA is Rs 26000 per semester at an average which wasn't the case at the time when I took admission. So there has been a moderate hike in fees. Also, they charge us for all college facilities like library, wifi, computers, etc and many more things through during the pandemic situation we used none of it. Still, now we are not allowed to use any of them but they won't reduce the fees anyhow. Scholarship from the college isn't available as such. Though one can apply for government scholarships or other private scholarships and the college helps to attain those. But their attitude is not that welcoming when students visit the college office for various reasons. Placement assistance is next to none in the college. The placement officer seems to be absolutely useless and has no worth at all. We didn't get internship opportunities from the college, though it was a part of our course curriculum. Placement after completion of course is also hopeless to be precise.
Campus Life
The annual fest of Scottish is called Caledonia. It has been on halt since 2020 due to disbanded college union and then the pandemic situation came over resulting in no fests at all. We have a departmental fest of our own as well. It's a business fest and goes by the name POSDCORB. We were all set to organise it in Feb 2020 and just before the day of the fest , lockdown was announced and hence our preparations at peak all went down the drain. Our classroom has AC's but they are now disfunctional. The main building has auditorium style classrooms with great ambiance. We have a huge library with epic collection of books ranging in all domains. We have a separate departmental library as well. Annual sports meet and annual cultural meet are held usually every year which are fun events and give great experience as well. We have multiple student run societies as well , such as debate, drama, quiz, dance, literary etc. But in the pandemic situation, all of these were missed a lot.
