Barasat Government College: My experience in 3 years

Eligibility: The admission is directly based on the marks I have got in my 12th final exam. Minimum 80% marks needed to admit in Geography Hons subject. A merit list will be created from the marks of the best four subjects. For example, I had Geography, History, Philosophy & Paul science. To get admitted to Geography Hons you have to get good marks, especially in Geography(90% marks will be good). The application form is available on our Barasat Government College's official website. The application fee was 2000 rs for the first year. Application dates vary & usually extended if seats are not filled. Yes, reservation benefits are available for minority students.

I love this subject very much & I used to get good marks in Geography from my Junior High school. So I did choose geography honors, We have a capacity of around 50 students in our department. We had 6 professors in our department. And we have two other pass subjects for the first to fourth semester. And we have more than 4-5 professors who used to take our pass subject's class. All the professors in the Geography Hons department were really good. They are very skilled and the teaching method is very easy to understand. Our faculty-student ratio is 10 students for 1 professor. We had to give an internal test before every semester. And we had to give 6 the semester to be a graduate. The first two semesters are easy. Then the number of papers increases. You have to study well to pass these exams.

The cost of studying in Barasat Government college is very low and affordable for anyone. The admission fees were around 2000 rs and for the 2nd year the fees were around 1200 and for 3rd year it stays the same. As it's a government college so we did not have to spend any extra fee for the cultural program or any other activity. And fees do not hike very often. However if score above 75% in HS you can get Swami Vivekananda Scholarship in the first year. For the 2nd and 3rd years, you have to get 60 % marks in your honors subject. And there is a scholarship for minority people too. No job campusing is offered in our college.

Our campus life was really good. In our department, a fresher's party was organized. And many cultural programs occurred every year in our college. An annual sports program was organized each year. Our classroom is moderate in size. It is very clean. We have the facility of using wifi on our campus. We had a pretty good campus. And we have a huge library with all the necessary books available. We had a hostel facility available for students who lived far away from barasat.
