Lifescience stream

The eligibility of the course is to have 60% and above in science stream for higher studies. Interested students can apply for BSc Biochemistry in this college. Admission process is via allotment. You should apply for many colleges of the subject in an order based on your interest. Reservation for OBC ,SC/ST, sports quota, etc is available. If you were a member of NSS, NCC etc the chances for admission is high along with your marks. You have to submit the relevant documents.

I chose this course because I wanted a lifescience stream. I thought it will be good for my future career. The teachers of the biochemistry department are all so supportive and they teaches very well. They help understand the concepts. They also teaches using presentation and practical classes are there from second year. This is a three year course where we have to study biochemistry core . chemistry and zoology/ botony as complimentary, English and second language either hindi/ malayalam/ french/ sankrit or arabic. All teachers have PhD in respective fields. There are 40 students in a batch. The exams are conducted once in 4 months. Exams are easy to pass if you are interested in this subject. Students who love a research career or love lifescience should take this course.

Most of the students with annual income less than a particular amount get egrantz so they don't have to pay fees. For general students also the fee is a small amount. It is usually 500-600 per semester. Final year fee will be 1000-1500 as we have practicals. There is no placement from campus.

The campus is not much big when I was studying. It is now renovating. But I love the college as there is so many cultural activities other than academics. Many fests are conducted by college union. And all students love that. It is one of the college's with so many fests. The major function held by college union us the 'chingam fest' , which is conducted during onam season. And 'dhruva' is the main cultural fest held in college. Other than this several fests are conducted. This college gives equal importance to study and cultural activities. And campus life is good compared to others in my experience. There are several clubs and seminars. The college has a library which has enough books. Sports day is also conducted in college. And several students from the college got medals for participating inter-college competitions.

The college doesn't provide any hostel facilities. But there are many hostels near the college. I joined a hostel opposite the college. It has a homely feel as it is a house. The members of the house are so friendly. We were about 40 students in the hostel. We were like a family. Now the hostel accommodates more than 40 students. The meal quality is good compared to other hostels nearby. And the menu is several Indian breakfasts. Availability of hostel should be checked by going to them. The fee is 5500 per month.
