Remarks
Contacted the college helpdesk on the number provided on their website. An associate gave me a brief overview of the eligibility criteria and all documents that I would need to have when I show up for admission at the university. Went to the uni campus, a counsellor sat down with me to discuss my preferences and gave me an overview of what to expect, fees and other related info before assisting me in filling the application form and finalizing the admission. A pretty convenient and hassle free experience. The eligibility criteria, app form, fees and application dates are available on the GEHU website, you can also call the helpdesk and get your queries answered over the phone.
Course Curriculum Overview
I needed a course that would provide me with relevant info and keep me up to date with the latest trends in the IT sector while providing me ample time to focus on my freelance and entrepreneurship goals and BCA turned out to be the perfect fit. I think the faculty:student ratio is just fine, every student has sufficient opportunities to ask questions, raise queries or discuss curriculum related stuff with the faculty members during the classes or throughout the day when they're free, they even go as far as answering our queries and resolving our issues during off hours. The term exams are spaced perfectly to allow students to take classes, understand the topic, clear doubts, practice implementation in labs and then appear for the exams with sufficient preparation. I think these exams perfectly judge a student's theoretical and practical understanding of the subject.
Internships Opportunities
A number of companies such as Wipro, TCS, Cognizant, Accenture and other organizations offered several internship packages and workshops to get students introduced to what they should expect. Personally, I opted to focus on my freelance and startup venture and didn't take up any offers or do much research on this topic.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for placements from the 5th semester. Placement classes are held to ensure students are well prepared for the placement procedure and interviews. Several companies such as TCS, Cognizant, Accenture, Wipro etc showed up with average packages of 3.5-4.0 lac for BCA students which is pretty reasonable in my opinion. Personally, placements are not my priority right now and I wish to focus on my freelance and startup venture and hopefully continue at Graphic Era for a Masters in Computer Applications next year.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is pretty flexible and the university has been pretty generous with its fee extension dates during COVID times and has added the option of paying the fees via EMI plans that have really helped middle class families to manage their finances. I've been awarded the 15% fee exemption as a part of the Himalaya Fee Waiver scheme. The fee hike certainly could have been dealt with in a better way, considering it's putting a strain on families and people who have been suffering losses in COVID times, resources aren't being used as much as during the offline system, so it's not justified to hike the fees in this fashion.
Campus Life
The campus environment is pretty chill and eventful at all times of the day. The Grafest is held every year in December, a festival spanning multiple days involving several national and international stars and Graphic Era students who get the opportunity to show off their technical and cultural prowess. There's also the Hackathon and several other events covering multiple domains. There are facilities for cricket, football, basketball and several other indoor and outdoor sports that students can sign up for. Then there's a well equipped library that allows students to research and explore a plethora of resources without much hassle. The classes are equipped with a computer system, microphone, projector and other supplies needed by the faculty and students for properly conducting classes.
