Buxi Jagabandhu Bidhyadhar College : A Hub of Future Human Resources

The process of admission in the college is quite smooth as for all govt. colleges of Odisha there is a Student Academic Management System(SAMS) which manages the overall admission process through online medium. The application form, fees and all the required details can be found out at the government website of samsodisha.gov.in . Once the cut-off is out and you are selected, you are called to the college you are selected and you have to give all the original documents for verification there only and it will finalize your admission to that course in that college. According to my experience the admission online is very fast but the verification of the documents at college by the authorities is a very long and time-taking process. The authorities present in the admission process are not very much co-operative and if you are not with the required documents they will not entertain you rather you will not be given admission.

The course I chose is B.Sc Computer Science(Hons.) which is a very good course and is very easy to learn. If you had read Computer Science in your 12th it will be a cakewalk for you in the 1st Year of the course but if you are from Biology Background I wouldn't suggest taking this course as I have seen in my batch students struggling to pass in the core subjects. But if you are determined and hardworking no obstacle can stop you. The faculty present is very good, cooperative and student-friendly. All the students feel free to share their personal feeling and problems with the teachers and for those who are living away from home and studying here, the faculty teachers act as parents to them. The ratio of boys and girls remains equal in the class each year. Out of 30-35 of total strength, 15-18 Boys and 15-18 girls take admission in the college. The teachers are well-qualified PhD holders and teach very well and clear all our doubts. The exams are easier to pass but difficult to score high.

Various opportunities for internships are available for the students of the college especially those who are pursuing their graduation in technical subjects such as Computer Science, Bio-Technology and Information Technology Management in companies like Britannia, Cadbury, Parle etc. Also, many of the students go for online internships at Internshala, LinkedIn, LetsIntern etc. Some of my seniors who are working on internships at Britannia are working on its resource management software and developing new software to replace the present one. Also, various students engage themselves with minimal time-taking internships like Data Entries, Program Testing etc.

Our college provides a good base of knowledge for the placement of students. Though on-campus placements are very rare in our college students get very good off-campus placements due to their knowledge acquired in the college and good recognition of the college in and out of the state. The students become eligible for placements in their pre-final semesters and they go to various companies for off-campus interviews. Companies like Deloitte, Infosys, TCS holds a good number of jobs for the graduates which our students easily crack and get placed. The highest package to date went up to 6.25Lakhs per annum and the average package remains about 2.25Lakhs per annum. Around 80-90% of the technical subject graduates get places but other subject placement is around 50% as most of them pursue their career in higher studies or research fields. I always wanted to join the defence forces and if not selected in it, I am sure to get a good package after my graduation in Computer Science.

The fee structure is quite good in our college. If you get admitted to a Physical science, Biological science, Commerce or Arts course it will hardly cost you Rs 6000 per year but if you take admission int self-financing courses like Computer Science or Bio-Technology it will cost you Rs15000 per year varying to the conditions and equipments installed or present at the time of your admission. Various central government, state government, and private scholarships can be applied through online and offline and the college is very much co-operative in that but the college doesn't hosts any own scholarships for the students. Various internships can be applied when you are in the college and you can earn a good amount of financial assistance through it. Though on-campus jobs are very rare in our college but it holds good recognition in and out of state which results in very good off-campus placements of the students.

Every department of our college hosts parties for the freshers coming and the farewell for the seniors moving out of the college every year. Our college students participate in fests all around the city. The college library and provides the students with a platform to cherish their knowledge in whichever field they want to pursue. There is also a reading room in the college library which provides a quiet and peaceful environment for the students to study. Apart from the college central library, there is a department library for every department of the college which holds quite a lot of course books needed by the students. Centralised computer labs and smart classrooms are present in the college which can be used by departments on allocated days and times of the week. Our college has football and cricket grounds along with a basketball and volleyball court. Every year 32 different teams of the college are made and they represent the college in the university sports tournaments.
