Barasat Govt College: My Honest Experience

Our Barasat Government college does not take the admission test for admission here. If you pass with 34% marks in your higher secondary exam you are eligible to apply for the course. Obviously, you need to have more than 70% marks to get a chance here. The admission process is based on merit lists. The merit list is created based on the class's 12th marks. You must have a Geography subject in class 12 and you must have above 80% marks so that you can take honours in Geography. For minority students, if you get 70%-80% marks you can get admission easily. For them, some seats are reserved. Once you fill the form from the college website they will send you the details of notification by SMS and email. The admission fee is low which is Rs 2000

I have got good marks in geography in our higher secondary exam so I have chosen this course in Bsc honours. We have 5 faculties in total and the total number of students was around 47 so the student-faculty ratio was 9 students per one professor. Our professors were very polite and have a lot of knowledge and experience in Geography subject. All of them have done PhD and they teach us in a very enthusiastic manner and they have taken many interactive practical classes. We have 6 semesters to pass & every semester has a lot of papers and we have practical exams and internal exams. All the exams are moderate to pass.

Our college is properly government college so the fee is very low. We had to give an admission fee which was around Rs 2000. And every semester fee varies between Rs 500-1500. So the total cost of study in 3 years is below Rs 10000. And in our government, college fee hike is very low. So the fee stays almost the same. If you got good marks you are eligible for applying for scholarships. If you get 60% marks you get Rs 18,000 per year. Many other popular scholarships are available like Kanyashree, TATA, etc. No jobs are offered from college.

Our college campus is pretty decent. Our college organizes several cultural programs every year. In our department of fresher's programs was organized with full enthusiasm. And our student's union organizes cultural functions and programs all around the year. We have celebrated Netaji Jayanti, Republic Day, Independence Day, Teachers" day Saraswati Puja and the list goes on. Our college library is very good. You can find all department books here. The library is clean and very silent for long studies. You can find many different books, magazines, journals too. If you are an avid reader this is the perfect place for you. Our library is not too big or too small and we have enough space in our room. Annual sports function was also taking place in our college. And we have a student.
