NMIMS Mumbai - Review

The admission procedure began with an application for the NMAT exam and a separate application for SBM-NMIMS. To be eligible for the course, you must have a minimum of a 50% in any bachelor's degree. The NMAT exam costs around 2500 and the NMIMS application costs around 2500. The NMAT exam is adaptive in nature and the cutoff last year was 235/360 (LS: 76, LR:76, and QA:76). If you clear the cutoffs, you will have to register for CD-PI process and have to pay for the same. The CD-PI process was online. We were given a case and had to write an essay in 20 minutes, based on our analysis. This was then followed by a personal interview round. The interview was taken by a panel of 3-5 members. My interview lasted around 20 minutes. The CD-PI process was smooth and conducted in a professional manner.

The MBA curriculum is a 2-year degree comprising of 6 trimesters. The academic curriculum is well structured and provides students with exposure to prepare them for the real world. The first year comprises mandatory subjects laying out the foundation, whereas, final year is based on the electives opted by the students. There are multiple electives offered by the institute. Between the end of the first and the beginning of the second year, students need to undergo a mandatory summer internship. Companies come on campus to recruit for their internship program. The faculty to student ratio of the institute is 1:28. The pedagogy of the institute is top class and the faculty not only has teaching experience but also industry experience. The MBA program relies heavily on case-based learning pedagogy. Furthermore, the institute prepares the students not only as corporate citizens but also a good samaritan. In these 2 year students need to undergo a 3-week long internship with an NGO as well.

Summer placements begin in the month of September, just before the commencement of the second trimester. The average stipend for the batch of 2022 stood at around 1.2 Lakhs with the highest offer standing at 3 Lakh. The placements were not impacted by COVID-19 and the batch of 2022 achieved 100% placement. A total of 180 companies came to the campus with 28 of them being fortune-500. 25% of the batch was able to secure a PPO.

The placements of SBM-NMIMS are at par with some of the best colleges in the country. The college is able to achieve 100% summer placements as well as the final placements. The average package for the batch of 2021 stood at around 18.5 Lakhs per annum and the average stipend for the batch of 2022 stood at around 1.2 Lakh for two months. Almost 25% of the 2021 batch got placed via PPOs and the highest package secured was around 35 lakhs.

The fee of a 2-year full-time MBA degree is around 21.9 Lakh. This does not include the hostel fee, which may cost an additional 3-3.5 Lakhs per year. There are multiple scholarships and financial assistance given to the students based on economic status and merit. Almost all financial institutions and banks provide education loans for the MBA program.

There are around 22 cells, clubs, and committees for the students to choose from based on their interests, and are allowed to join multiple of them. Euphoria is the yearly cultural fest that takes place towards the end of the year. Apart from this, the clubs and cells host multiple events throughout the year like Expressions, etc. The infrastructure of the institute is stunning and well designed. There is also a world-class learning resource center cum library with access to multiple journals, books, and research papers for the students. There are multiple activities students can be a part of.

The CD-PI was a 2 step process. In the first step, we were given a case and write an essay based on our analysis of the same. We were given around 20-30 minutes to write the essay. Step 2 was a personal interview conducted by a panel of 3-5 members which revolved around my previous work experience, extra-curricular activities, my point of view on current issues & challenges, and post-MBA plans/goals. for preparation, be up to date with the current affairs, be thorough with your resume & statement of purpose and prepare your hygiene questions beforehand like Why MBA? , long-term and short-term goals, etc.
