Remarks
Great learning experience. Not only subject-wise learning VIT provides an opportunity for learning life skills. A Paradise for learning.
Entrance Preview
I got admission in VIT University by taking up Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT). I scored somewhere around 57. The University also allows students with valid CAT and MAT scores to take up the interview process. The interview process is held in various places across India. I took up at VIT Vellore. There were a group discussion, extempore, and a face-face. After consolidation, they announced the result. 2012 is when VIT University Chennai campus started offering MBA. I got admission at VIT Vellore. The reason for choosing an MBA is that I had a passion for administration so thought to take up MBA
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is really good. VIT MBA is a trimester system so it would be fast and you will love the way academics move. My UG B.E., CSE so I felt Accounts little tuff. Other than that the curriculum, is structured in a way where holistic learning is achieved. Also VIT MBA - FCFS so we are given the option of choosing our own subjects. but choosing faculty is not in our hands. As VIT says it is not a fully Flexible Credit System. Only choosing the subject is flexible. The subjects given are wide and you will a lot to pick up from.
Internships Opportunities
When I was doing an MBA, we were intimated to do an internship. However, they were no support from the institution. I did at UBI Chennai. Most of my friends did intern with a local insurance bank.
Placement Experience
VIT is good in placements only for Engineering graduates. When comes to MBA I think VIT has a long way to go. Not even 50-60 students would have got placement out of 270 odd students in VIT MBA Vellore. Also, those who got placement were mostly with Marketing. only 3-4 companies were for BA profile. The Placement Cell of VIT also focuses only on Engineering graduates. No focus is given by anyone towards an MBA. When we were doing an MBA a lot of representation was made to the management but nothing really happened.
College Events
Gravitas and Riviera are two international events that are held in VIT. Gravitas usually organized in the month of September and Riviera in February. Gravitas (3-5 days) - Technical fest that will have 40000 participants from all over the world. Riviera (3-5 Days) - Cultural and Sports fest that will have more than 30000 participants from around the world. The guest for both events will be celebrities in the respective field. Riviera comes with DJ nights.
Fee Structure And Facilities
I paid Rs. 2.5 lakhs per year. The fee will look expensive however worth it. The fee includes everything -the library, exam fees, internet, and others. The fee compared to other colleges in Tamil Nadu is costlier. I believe the fee structure is now revised.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am not sure about loan facilities as I didn't get the opportunity to know about that in VIT as I was not in need. Regard scholarship VIT provides a scholarship called STAR Scheme. Under this scheme, VIT selects 2 rural students from each district of Tamil Nadu and offers 4 years of Engineering free of cost including food and accommodation. It is really a great thing and Kudos to Dr. G.Viswanathan for his social responsibility.
Campus Life
Campus life - Learning in VIT and being there is like being in Paradise. That's the way University and cultural mix will be. You can see all state students and foreign students here. And you will have an opportunity to learn life skills from all cross of people. And regarding sports, there are opportunities provided for it and evening all grounds will be packed with players. Competitions - Every day there will be a competition/event/conference in VIT. There is no day in VIT without events (as a whole university).
Hostel Facilities
In the hostel, there is a range from which one can choose. Single ac / nonac, double ac / nonac, triple, and up to six per room you can choose. You have hostels which are fully furnished. All hostels have more than one lift and all are hostels are wi-fi enabled. And you will have fast internet round the clock. The University provides 3 GB of free internet when I was doing an MBA. Mess there is more than 5 mess with south / north veg and no-veg. There is also a Special mess (Rs. 5000 extra than other mess). The hostel will be really good. A Home away from Home.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network is strong through an Alumni team. Also, there are chapters city-wise and we are regularly called and invited for lunch/dinner when the alumni chapter meets. Also, VIT Vellore Alumni Day will be on 26th January always where alumni can come to VIT.
Exam Structure
Trimester Pattern. We had continuous assessment tests cat will conduct periodically to ensure good performance in the end trimester. I believe there won't be any hectic day inside VIT. It will be a paradise. Also, the examination won't be theatrical in the sense of bookish. The questions will be situation based and real-world problems. So writing exams will also be interesting.
Faculty
The faculty are very friendly, kind, and well qualified. To mention Ashok Sir, hope he is now not in VIT is an expert and us students loved to be in his class. He was a master. Other faculties too are very good and even they motivate which I don't believe happens in Universities. There were half a dozen guest faculties from Banks and NIT Trichy and they were awesome. We even had classes at night 7 and you won't even feel bored and the class will get over in no time. The faculties in VIT MBA Dr. Shakthi Srinivasan, Dr. Gowtham Kumar Kundu, Dr. Anitha, and others are really good. But I believe most of the good faculties are not with VIT now.
