Remarks
I was interested in pursuing research in physics. IISERs were established by the Indian government to promote research and are an "Institute of National Importance". The research facilities in the IISERs are some of the best in India. The institute has excellent faculty members, some of whom are the leading researchers in their fields. The institute also has a Padma Shree and several other award winning scientists.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is very broad, diverse and inter-disciplinary, hence a bit rushed sometimes. There isn't much industrial exposure. Faculities are excellent and some them are leading researchers in their fields.
Placement Experience
Most students go for higher education and our alumini are pursuing their pHD in some of the renowned institutes of the world. Some students join R&D in different industries. A relatively smaller faction has gone to pursue MBA, Civil service etc.
College Events
There are over 20 clubs in the institute which are more than enough to keep the students busy in a lot of extra curricular activities ranging from arts to robotics. The institute holds an annual fest called "Insomnia". Social life in the campus is very active.
Campus Life
Sports facility is great. Wi-fi is decent. Library is top notch. It has won many awards and is one of the best libraries in India. Equipments in undergraduate labs are a bit old and need repair. But, the equipments in research labs are cutting. The institute even has a femtosecond laser.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel rooms are very small and first and second students have to pair up. Others get a single-room. The hostel facility is mostly good but there are a few hiccups. Wi-fi on some of the floors is slow due to lack of routers. Don't be surprised to find a few taps and geysers not working. Hostel facility is guaranteed to all students.
