Debjani Mukherjee's Review On The Bhawanipur Education Society College - [BESC], Kolkata

The Bhawanipur Education Society College is one of the most reputable colleges in Kolkata. It thrives on infrastructure, faculty and boasts of catering a holistic approach to college education with extracurricular activities going on par with studies. I took Bachelor's in Commerce just to expand my knowledge of the subject.

The college being under the University of Calcutta has a pretty comprehensive course curriculum for 3 years Bachelor's in Commerce. The college holds various free workshops. For instance, we were provided free workshops on GST and the ERP Tally course in the college is free (it includes an initial deposit of Rs. 1000 which is refunded if the student successfully earns the certificate). The faculty mostly consists of PhD scholars and academicians who are pursuing PhD. All in all, the course curriculum and methodology of teaching is pretty on par with the best private institutions across the country.

Every year, the Placement Cell in the campus conducts placements of student interns and graduates. The top companies that visit our campus include TCS, Cognizant, Amazon, PwC, Ernest and Young, Indigo and more. They offer vacancies for students in various departments including Bcom, BBA, MBA and more.

The Bhawanipur is also known for holding some of the biggest events among colleges in Kolkata. There are groups that encourage talent. For instance, Fashionista for those who are interested in modeling, Flames for dancers, Crescendo for singers and musicians and more. Other clubs in the college are drama clubs and a debating society. The college also provides scope for those who are interested in event management through participation in some of the biggest events which are held in the college. The college also holds the MUN on an annual basis. UMANG, the annual college festival, held each year around December/ January is one of the most talked about college festivals in Kolkata. Some of the best known artists like Amit Trivedi, Shreya Ghosal, Salim Merchant, Palak Mucchal, Sunidhi Chauhan grace the stage during the festival.

The college give 100% fee waivers to students who score 90% and above in the best of 5 subjects in CBSE and ICSE and 85% and above in West Bengal Board.

The Bhawanipur is known for its infrastructural facilities like AC classrooms, smart classes, free wiFi, decent computer labs, a massive technically-backed library (known as the Knowledge Resource Center), sports arena with Billiards and TT tables, massive assembly halls and conference rooms, a basketball court and a canteen that serves delicious food, maintaining the standards of hygiene.
