Remarks

IIT-Gandhinagar, also declared as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India is a university of the first choice for several engineering aspirants. It was ranked 18th by India Today among the best engineering colleges in India. This institute is specifically known for its computer science courses. I, being one of them tried my shortlisting luck and applied at the institute. With the application fees of INR 500, I filled out the form from the official website. The details to be filled in are the SSC and HSC marks, JEE(Main) and JEE(advanced) ranks, and other sections like participation in co-curricular and accomplishments. The cutoff for computer science and engineering had a gender-neutral cutoff of 1488 in the general category. However, the cutoff rank for females was marked at 3460. After being shortlisted, I got a call for counseling and to pay the admission fees along with the refundable security deposit.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

IIT Gandhinagar had a vast course curriculum comprised of theories, history of the internet, live projects, internships and coding boot camps. In the first year, we had a syllabus covering software projects like Graphics Programming and data science. The following modules comprised of a project that combined knowledge and skills to create a software project. This included modules like computer programming, computational mathematics, discrete mathematics, algorithms and data structures, Agile software projects, Artificial intelligence, Mobile development, Intelligent signal processing, etc. The professors were either a Ph.D. faculty or experienced professionals with previous experience in tech giants. The faculty-student ratio was a decent number standing at 12:1

Placement Experience

5

The candidates of IIT-Gandhinagar were majorly hired for roles like application programmer, mobile app developer, web developer, video game programmer, SFX, and post-production and systems analyst. Candidates having previous internship experience were preferred by the companies. Also, candidates involved in live projects and coding boot camps had an edge over freshers. The companies visiting the campus were KPIT(Germany), Goldman Sachs, ITC, IOCL, HPL, and ISRO. The highest package offered was 18LPA while the average package stands at 12LPA. Since IIT Gandhinagar is a new branch, the package offered is a bit lower compared to other IITs. However, it is expected to get higher in the upcoming years.

Fees and Financial Aid

The financial aid offered by IIT-Gandhinagar is not only offered by the institute, but they also connect the candidates with other scholarship programs. The main amongst them are the Tuition fee waiver for the Undergraduate/Master students and the TATA Motors Limited Financial Aid program. Apart from that the college even provides a research travel grant called the Atlas Research Travel Grant. For the need-based scholarship, Students with a minimum CPI of 6.5 with a family income of less than 3,00,000 will be awarded 10,000 per month.

Campus Life

5

IIT Gandhinagar has a wonderful campus of 400 acres of land across the Sabarmati river. The campus houses a complex called the Central Arcade which comprises restaurants, shops, ATMs, etc. It also has a sports complex, swimming pool, indoor badminton, and volleyball court. Students occupy themselves in a lot of creative and leisure activities at the campus along with their academic liabilities. The college offers foundation program, explorer fellowship, gram fellowship, Leadership development initiative, and Maker bhavan that offers several workshops, internships, courses. It even equips a 3D Printing space with other manufacturing machines. Its flagship annual event called amalthea comes up with new opportunities every year. These include Tech Expo, CA portal, and other sponsor webinars.

There is no major problem in the curriculum regarding to the course. The curriculum covers almost all major real-world applications. But, the there is so much detailed and compulsive study on techniques that are not even used in today's time.

Placements are good. Students are eligilble for campus placements from 7th semester. The highest package is 2100000 and the lowest is 200000. The median package is 3.5 to 4.5 lakhs per year. From last two years there was 100% placements but usually its 90%. I plan to pursue pg after this degree in either mtech or mba.
