Sastra University Review

Before appearing for JEE I decided to search for college so that I could prepare accordingly. Sastra University attracted my attention as the college is very popular for its IT program in which I was interested and the placement of the college is good. The biggest plus point was I don't have to depend on JEE for admission. I have secured 88% in my board exam and I immediately applied for admission to Sastra University without wasting any time I visited the campus and applied for admission as the college is in my hometown. The admission is done in 2 different criteria Type 1: 75% weightage is given to board exam and 25% to JEE score and in Type 2: 100% weightage is given to academic score and my academic score was very good. I have secured 81% in 10th and 88% in 12th so after going through a small PI round I was allotted the seat and I immediately freezer my seat. PI round is just an introduction about ourselves and just had to verify our documents.

My interest in computers, hardware, software, Operating systems, and Binary Coding inspired me to opt IT course. The curriculum is as per the industrial norms and as per the latest IT guidelines. The curriculum imparts us with the basic and advanced level of knowledge about binary coding, Operating system and types of OS, all the basis and advanced knowledge about the computer hardware and components, and many more. According to my personal experience, I felt that the course was quite interactive and interesting.

The college provides good internships. To opt for an internship we have to register ourselves so that the placement committee can help us to opt for an internship. We are provided with a good opportunity to work as interns in Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, etc as per our domain and interest. Stipends vary according to the company but usually, the average stipend was around Rs. 30000/-.

We are eligible for placement after completing 3 years of our program we can opt for placement in the 4th year of our program. We have to fill out some forms in the 5th and 6th semesters for the placement and have to register with the placement committee so that we can take part in the placement process. The placement committee is dedicated and helps us to identify the companies as per our interests. The placement of Sastra University is very good and the college is popularly known for its IT placements. The highest package for my batch was around 25 LPA and the average package was around 9.50 LPA. The college has a record of 85% to 95% which is very good. I did not opt for placement because I wanted to complete M.Tech.

The complete college fee is around 7 lakh and we have to pay the fee in 8 installments. The college also provides an education loan facility and the admission department will help you out because few of my batchmates have availed of education loans and they told me that the admission department was quite supportive and cooperative during the process. As college provides the scholarship on a merit basis but I am not the right person to tell you about the scholarship as I did not apply for any kind of scholarship. The college infrastructure is well maintained and the college campus life is full of events. The college sports fest is known as Colosseum it is an inter-university inter sports competition where the different colleges of Tamil Nadu Participate in football, cricket, volleyball, and basketball tournaments, Daksh is the tech fest which helps us to demonstrate our skills in coding, different kinds of machine designing and Kurukshetra is the cultural fest. the college library is good and there are many books available from around the world. The labs are quite modern and the computers lab are equipped with the latest computers with the latest configuration. The college classrooms are well maintained and properly ventilated.

The hostel infrastructure is well maintained. The rooms are available on sharing and single occupancy as per the budgets. There are around 7 hostels on the campus named Ananda Vihar, Kamadhenu, Kamadhenu Annexe, Paramananda Vihar, Vashishta, Sandipani Sadan, and Rajalakshmi Vihar. The mess food is average and the menu keeps on changing and food is nutritious probably that is why it is not too tasty. The hostel decorum is well maintained by the staff and the hostel wardens. The hostel has all types of facilities as per our needs.

The faculty of the college is good. The faculty is of PhD level and they are experts in their respective subjects especially the coding faculty. The faculty have good research and industrial experience and they are quite cooperative.
