Remarks
IIT Madras is one of the most reputed engineering institutes in India it has also been recognised as an institute of national importance and consistently rated as one of the most prestigious universities in India. This is why I decided to shortlist this college to finish my undergraduate here. The admission process is easy since one can fill the form online on its official portal. The JEE advanced cut off at IIT Madras is 844 as the opening rank and 2046 as the closing rank for the general category in both males and females. The cutoff is different for the reserved categories as relaxation is provided to them. After being shortlisted I received a call for counselling and to pay the admission fees along with the security deposit.
Course Curriculum Overview
The syllabus for Electrical Engineering at IIT Madras is vast and at par with the emerging trends at other universities. The topics that each are followed with the live projects and other practical applications for the same. These models include topics like engineering electromagnetics, High voltage engineering, microprocessor and microcontroller power, system protection and switchgear, fundamentals of power electronics, thermal and hydraulic prime movers, rotating AC machines, the art of programming, analogue electrical circuits, mathematics, physics, rotating AC machines etc. The faculty and staff here are extremely cooperative and almost everyone holds a PhD degree. The faculty-student ratio is 30 and stands at 8:1.
Placement Experience
The training and placement cell at IIT Madras takes care of the internship and placement of the candidate after graduation. The recruiters visiting the campus for placements are Microsoft, Apple, Intel, JP Morgan Chase, Samsung, HSBC, BCG, Morgan Stanley, Flipkart, Citibank, Jaguar, Amazon, blackbuck, Honeywell, AirBus, p & g, RBS, Cisco, Deloitte, standard chartered, Bain and company, Google, Wells Fargo, MasterCard, ITC, Finmechanics. It has a record of 100% placement, Aryan 27 students secured a package of INR 1 crore. American express and Microsoft word are some of the top recruiters. Is recruiters usually look for candidates having prior experience in internships and summer internships hence it is advised to the candidates to carry on some project during their study.
Fees and Financial Aid
IIT Madras provides merit cum means scholarship to 25% of students with a minimum GPA of 5.5 with the parent's annual income not exceeding 4.5 lacs. Institute notional price awards a grant of rupees 1000 to 7% of students admitted on the basis of their JEE rank and parents' annual income not exceeding 4.5 lacs. Another scholarship is provided to SC and ST students with free messaging and an allowance of 250 rupees per month their parent's annual income should not exceed 4.5 lacs. Indian women's association at bonn scholarship is awarded rupees 1250 per month to 1 BTech student for 12 months on the basis of their rank in JEE and parents annual income upto 5 lacs.
Campus Life
IIT Madras is known for its amazing campus life with diversity in its candidates and the excellent alumni that it produces. It also has 20 German professors to solve at the institute for 4 to 5 years. The campus is just 10 km from the Chennai airport and 7.5 km from the Chennai Central railway station. There are several facilities at the campus like accommodation, library, food shops, gym and timepass hall, cricket, football, hockey, and badminton stadium. Internet is available 24/7 in the academic zone. Shastra is the annual technical festival of IIT Madras here they conduct symposiums workshops conferences from other universities and competitions like programming, quizzes applied engineering, etc. Sarang Is an annual socio-cultural festival of IIT Madras.
