Remarks

The admission process is governed by the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) conducted by the consortium of NLUs. Eligibility- no age limit, minimum 45% in 10+2 (General, OBC) and 40% (SC, ST) The application form is available on consortiumofnlus.ac.in and applications usually open at the beginning of the year while the exam takes place sometime around May. It contains 5 sections- GK, legal aptitude, logic, English, and elementary mathematics. The score determines your rank and thereby the university (NLU) you shall be allotted.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose the course because of my passion for law and social sciences. The faculty to student ratio has significantly improved now. The teaching method varies from faculty to faculty but all of them are learned and make their best efforts to give you knowledge. There are two term exams- mid sems and end sems. There is one assignment with viva for each subject per semester. The papers are mostly practical and enhance one's knowledge in text and practice.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

The internships offered by the university have started only recently but the offers that have come have come from good law firms etc. Most students find internships on their own and the projects vary depending on the nature of their internship (litigation, corporate etc.) Internships are largely unpaid.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees are high and some charges seem to be far fetched since those facilities have not been made available, especially during covid. State scholarships can be availed by students if the state they hail from offers scholarships. On campus jobs/placements are not there yet.

Campus Life

3

There are little to no facilities for extracurricular, especially in terms of fests etc. The extracurricular culture especially in moot courts is very good and students have won several laurels. Sports facilities are bare minimum with only a TT table and a football field 10km away from campus. There are research centres and committees working on different things such as debating, ADR etc.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Hostels are currently under construction on campus but they do look promising with better facilities than the ones the university has currently rented. Food has improved. Hostels are compulsory and are alloted at the time of admission

Placement Experience:

the following is the bare bones of accommodations in HPNLU lavery centre HPNLU placements and carrer prospects :-the HPNLU students are usually allowed to have campus placements staring in the 9th semester .the placement cell is only quite young ,and thus developing at NLU . Boutique law firms and companies such as link legal and lakshmikumaran and sridharan also conduct top recruiting , and a few of the students also conduct top recruiting ,and a few of the students also get the PPO,s after the internship . packages the largest packages are normally between 10-12 LPA,with an average package of between 6-7 LPA placement percentage approximately 40-50 % of students seeking corporate jobs end up being placed off campus . plans after degree :on a personal note ,i will be exploring the world of litigation or the courts ,as the degree offerings provided by the university provide a good base in regards to competitive tests .

Placement Experience:

College does provide placement however not up to the mark. The placement cell is working hard to provide the best for its students, rest the NLU tag really matters and fetches students work if not from the campus but independently as well. I personally have no plans to go for a placement and so do several others at HPNLU they are focused on judiciary or other government exams.

Its around 37 lakh per annum. 60% of students out of 100% to get placement in campus. My plan after degree is to serve a firm as a corporate lawyer or if no than i open Advisory office.

Students usually become eligible for placements in the second semester of their final year. I am currently unaware of the companies that have visited Himachal Pradesh National Law University. U am also unaware of the current packages offered to students but to my knowledge, students with a CGPA higher than 7.5 are preferred by the company. Placement percentage is low. My plan after the degree include being employed at law firm, preferably in Shimla itseld

the curse curriculum is divided very proficiently such that there is no pressure on the students as well as the teachers. although there is very less interaction and experience with the legal field and other works. no practical as such. there must be more court visits and internshios under certain senior lawyers and others.
