Remarks
While talking about some good engineering colleges, one will definitely hear the name of IIT Mandi in the room. Situated in the mountains, this institute provides the best courses along with great campus life. The Mechanical Engineering department is well known here. When I got my scores for the GATE exam, I applied for the M.S course here online and submitted a fee of Rs.200. I took admission in the general category. Before the final merit list, a student has to sit for the interview round as well.
Course Curriculum Overview
Mechanical engineering is a really interesting field and the course structure set by the institute here perfectly aligns with it. I enjoyed practicals, my time in the lab more as compared to the theory parts. Professors had the experience of both corporate and teaching careers. We were taught with the mindset to always think out of the box in the concepts used in real life situations and problems.
Placement Experience
Professional opportunities have been great at IIT Mandi. A total of 146 students sat for the placements in the year 2021 and 133 offers were made to the students. Highest CTC offered was around Rs.38 LPA. Companies that visited the campus for the placements were Amazon, Microsoft, Codenation, DE Shaw, Adobe, Sales Force, Google, Microsoft, Samsung Bangalore, Walmart and Paytm.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure at the institute is quite reasonable as compared to other colleges. Rs. 40250 is the entire cost of pursuing an M.S. here. I did not go for any scholarship or financial aid. If you require some financial aid then you can go for the scholarships like Central Sector Scholarship for SC Students, HTRA scholarship for M.S., M.Tech., and PhD Students/Scholars, Merit Cum Mean Scholarship for General & OBC Category Students, Institute Scholarship for SC/ST Students.
Campus Life
80% of my campus life was taken by covid. I was very disheartened when the campus closed but the time I spent residing on the campus was worth it. Such a scenic location of the campus is an added advantage. Due to the pandemic, some events were cancelled and the major ones were conducted on online platforms. The auditorium of campus is huge. The infrastructure of the campus is also great.
