Remarks
The admission for IIT Madras B.tech is done through JEE advance entrance exam. To write JEE advance exam, one has to qualify for JEE mains exam. NTA conducts the JEE main exam. One can find the application form on the NTA official website. The application fee for male candidates is 650 rupees and for female, SC, ST candidates it is 350 rupees. The qualifying percentile for JEE advance will be around 90 percentile for general category, for SC, ST, OBC it depends on the number of respective category candidates appearing for the exam. JEE advance is conducted by any of the IITs. It changes every year. One has to apply for the JEE advance through conducting IIT's website. The registration fee for the application is 3000 rupees for male candidates and 1500 rupees for female, SC, ST candidates.
Course Curriculum Overview
Chemical Engineering is really interesting. It has a broad range of applications in the real world. The professor along with 4-5 TA teach any course. Again a number of TA's (Teaching assistants) will depend on the professor and toughness of the course. We will be having 2 quizzes, one mid sem and one end sem. One has to attend all 4 exams to complete the course. The difficulty of the question paper will depend on the professor.
Internships Opportunities
3rd year students are eligible for on campus internships. They usually starts on 2nd week of August. Again, most of the companies coming for placements recruit students for internships as well. Internship stipend is depend on companies which are recruiting.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for placements in the final year. There are many big companies that come every year like Google, Microsoft, Amazon etc. The highest package for the CS department will go to above 1 crore per annum and the average package is 24 lakh per annum. For the Chemical department, the Highest package will be around 50 lakh and the average package is 12 lakh per annum. The placements percentage in IIT Madras is usually high.
Fees and Financial Aid
For any B.tech course, the tuition fee is 1lakh per semester. There will be some other fees like exam fees, etc..which include another 7K per semester which combined is called institute fees. For SC, ST, students whose family income is less than 1 lakh annum, will get a fee waiver. They need not pay tuition fees.
Campus Life
There are a huge number of books in IIT Madras Central Library which is 4 floors building. There is also iitm wifi in the library. You can enter the library by showing your student ID card for security. Many of the clubs in the IIT Madras are student-run clubs. Throughout the year there are many sports, cultural events happening around the insti (short form of the institute). Like Schroeter which is inter hostel sports event, Inter-Department sports event, Deans Trophy, LIT SOC which is inter hostel cultural competition, Shastra and Saarang which are more prestigious events that happen in Jan every year. These are only a few events apart from Inter IIT sports, Tech competitions.
