Deepanjan Paul's Review On Indira Gandhi National Open University - [IGNOU], New Delhi

I had to clear the Certificate in Computing(CIC) to get into the Master of Computer Application. I scored 84% to get into the course. I opted for IGNOU as I was already working and at the same time wanted to upgrade my self.

The course curriculum was great. It was indepth of all the subjects. Initially we missed the latest technologies but once we had our base strong we picked up the upcoming techologies very easily.

Now time to say the negetive points. We were never offered any internship. Again we were left alone to hunt for each and everything. Not a single interview was arranged for either internship or placement.

The most pathetic part of the course like MCA from IGNOU is that we never get any assistance for placement or job opportunities. IGNOU just provides us the degree and withdraws the support. They consider us to be so self reliant.

Well We never had any such events. To be honest every student was so busy with the work load that no time was left for such things. The majority studens are from working class. All worked during the day time and just reached the class at 6PM. So no question of celebration.

It was and is very good. The total Course Fee: Rs. 54, 000 @ Rs 9000 per semester. It includes the lab charges. You just have to pay 9k every sementer which is very affordable. It includes the cost of the Books for MCA.

Since the fees is already low, the need for loan is not needed. Still one can approach the SBI for educational loan, since IGNOU is not a private body you get it easily.

Well no campus life is present. The working class is getting an opportunity to study, hence no campus life is needed. No time is left to celebrate all these stuff. Still IGNOU invites for the function once you pass the course.A grand convocation is held.

Since IGNOU does not provide any hostel seats we cannot comment on it.Yes we saw students getting such facilities form the third party. As I told earlier the majority student mass is a working class, the need for hostel is not needed.

We do have a strong base but we the lack of central coordination is missing. The student base will be one of the largest in the world but since no single point of contact is there, the alumni is suffereing a lot.

The Exams and labs were too good. Infact there were many students who were 100% dependent on the labs. Infact I too did not have my personal computer till the end of the course. The lab sessions were too good and the teachers who were present in the lab were always there to help us out. We had 7 days labs. We could schedule and work extra. The exam structure was also too good. We had exams every 6 months. The exams were conducted very nicely. The passing % is too low as the exams are very tough.

It was great. We had VC, Assitant Professors from various colleges teaching us. The rich experience of teaching staff was great. We could discuss the latest and anything outside our course an enrich our knowledge.
