Life at AKGEC

The college accepts the candidature of the students on the basis of their ranks in exams like UPSEE AND JEE mains. The highest rank holders get admission in the Computer Science and Information Technology branches through the medium of counselling. There is also a process of direct admission on the basis of XII marks. For that purpose, a student has to download the form from the AKGEC site and fill out that form and send the hard copy to the college. After that, the college shortlists the person and calls for an interview and then the final selection took place. There is reservation in the college as per the guidelines of the Uttar Pradesh government for the people belonging to the SCs, STs, OBCs and Economically Weaker Sections. The admission process is fairly transparent and robust.

This course had wide applications in the electronics as well as the instrumentation industry. It consists of the subjects that were common to the Electronics and Communication Engineering course. And then there are subjects related to the instrumentation. So overall the course was very comprehensive. The faculty to student ratio was very good. It was around 1:20. All the faculty had completed their masters or held a PHD in their respective domains. They all were highly qualified. The exams were conducted in a timely fashion approximately four times in a semester and were of moderate level and can be qualified with decent efforts.

The students can do summer internships in the third year from the companies of their choice. The college also arranges a few companies that offer internship opportunities to students but they are fewer in number. The stipend remains around 20-30K. The projects depend upon the branch of the student. The students from CS and IT can work in the big data and blockchain fields.

The students become eligible for the campus placements from the beginning of the seventh semester. There are several companies which recruit students in masses from the campus like Infosys, TCS, and Cognizant. Apart from this over 100 companies visit the college and give offers to the students. The number of offers can be considered the same as the number of students in the course. The highest package can go around 20 Lakhs and the average package is around 5 Lakhs. The percentage of students getting placement is around 90%. My plan was to give government exams after my degree.

The increase in the fees can be roughly estimated at the rate of 5-10% per year as per the course. The overall cost of completing the degree can come to around 6 Lakhs. There are few seats for economically weaker sections whose fees are very less. The government also give scholarship to the weaker sections of the society to pursue their education. A form has to be filled out for that purpose. I did not sit in the placements as I had some other plans. But the placement was decent with an average of 4 Lakhs per annum.

There was no particular annual fest but there was one national-level literary event called SCROLLS in which the students used to prepare presentations and deliver them in front of professors and other industry experts. Besides this, there were several technical events during the year related to coding and robotics. There are thousands of books available in the library along with journals from reputed international organisations like IEEE. The classrooms had a beautiful infrastructure and had all the basic amenities like chairs and tables, a projector and whiteboard. There was an annual sports event called Saksham in which all types of sports were played like athletics, kho-kho, cricket and many more. There is ample scope for extra co-curricular activities like singing, dancing and even fashion. There are several societies like Horizon, Taal, Uffni and OSSRD and more.

The hostel has a proper infrastructure with decent bathrooms and bedrooms. The hostel consists of a living room where televisions were there. There was a gym in the hostel and a canteen which opened for most of the time. The quality of the food was overall good and the menu was fixed for the week. During the admission, the forms for hostels are filled and they are allotted as per the availability. There are several societies near the college like Landcraft, Mahagun and Jasmine Groves where students can find the rooms easily.
