Remarks
Amrita School of Engineering is one of the best things happened to me. I am happy about the option I chose and I dont have any regrets on that. ASE- Coimbatore campus is the best to study and enjoy. and to proudly say, I am an Amritian.
Entrance Preview
I wrote Amrita Entrance Examination, ranked good. I was hoping to get in Mechanical Engineering in Coimbatore campus (There are 3 campus for Engineering--1. Coimbatore 2. Kollam 3. Bangalore). But I could get seat only in Bangalore. So I took Chemical Engineering in Coimbatore Campus itself. During that time, they proposed for sliding to other Engineering courses after 1st year depending on the availability of the seats. So I opted for it. After 1st year, though my GPA was good, I felt strong inclination to Chemical Engineering itself. So I continued in that and I am happy with my decision.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Petroleum refining/ Petrochemical as Elective in my 5th/6th sem. By final year, I chose Composites in Aerospace Industry. During our Campus recruitment, I got in a Composite Industry (Tata Advanced Matetials Limited, a pioneer in Composite field). This field is a developing one. Almost all possible structures of Aircraft are being replaced by Composite structures. For more details, google it for CFRP/FRP.
Internships Opportunities
Our was the first batch of Chemical Engineering (passed out by 2011). Before that, it has the name of Polymer Engineering. So, not many companies came. Dow Chemicals was the only one who came that time for internship.
Placement Experience
2011 pass out batch had more than 95% placement. Most of them were software companies. Almost 10% were placed in Core industries.I got placed in Tata Advanced Matetrials Limited, a pioneer in Composite Industry supplying Aircraft parts to Airbaus & Boeing. During training period ( 1 yr), it was 2L pa. After that 2.5L/pa + depending on the performance. Though pay was not good enough, the technical take in was really good. A promising place to build a carrier.
College Events
So many celebrations happen. And so many clubs like Raghasudha, Natyasudha, Nature Club, etc. Happen every 2 months time. Plus yearly celebration like Anoka, having people from other institutions participating in the events.
Fee Structure And Facilities
For our batch, from 2007-2011, yearly fees of 1 Lakh pa, including Hostel & Food expense. It was quite affordable on comparing to the outside colleges, where the fees were collected in bits finally totaling to more than 1.5 lakhs pa.
Campus Life
Campus life was quite good.Gender ratio was about 60: 40 (M: F). This institution held high regards to Culture. Gokulashtami and Amma Jayanthi were celebrated in deeply cultured manner. Gokulashtami is one of the festivals celebrated with huge efforts- a definite one to be remembered through out one's life while thinking about college days.
Hostel Facilities
Coimbatore Campus- Hostel facility is really good. Regarding food, it was okay- Neither great nor worse.
Alumni/Alumna
Every year we have Alumni meet by the month of February, meeting all the current students of the department and describing about the work culture and the market outside.
Exam Structure
Exams and Labs were bit hectic. Exams focused on continuous learning, having the internals holding 50% of the mark. Labs focused mainly on the team work.
