Remarks
In terms of technicality, the college has little to be complained about except for the face that the equipment that are used in the laboratories are age old and have been used a million times till now. The downside about this college is primarily getting permissions from the admin office/departments where the procrastination is taken to another level. Besides this, there's not really much to complain. Even the college canteen is wonderful. They offer a variety of meals and quality is maintained and the cost is reasonable
Entrance Preview
I opted for K-CET ( Karnataka Common Entrance Test) and scored about 145 out of 180 which is a good score. They combine this with the 12th board exam scores and the rankings are based on the total score. My score happened to be enough to make it into this branch of this college. I opted for this college because this happens to be among the best colleges in this circuit in Karnataka. Also, RVCE is said to have the best ECE department among other top colleges and that made me choose this course over other courses.
Course Curriculum Overview
The syllabus is reviewed once every four years and the examination scheme changes the same way as well. The syllabus happens to comprise of partly outdated concepts as compulsory subjects and the modern topics are all under electives to be chosen. So the course would be rated 7/10. Focus on research has plenty opportunities as the college has plenty research and innovative clubs through which the true meaning of 'engineering' can be realized.
Internships Opportunities
From what I've come across, the college doesn't provide internship directly, but they do provide opportunities for joining internships elsewhere. They are very active in terms of informing us if there are any upcoming internship offers from other companies. Yet, I feel I'm underqualified in answering this question and a 4th year student would be the right person to have a say at this.
Placement Experience
The placement in RVCE is better than almost all other colleges in the state. It, along with MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology share the best placement records in the city in terms of engineering graduates. For departments such as Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science Engineering and Information Science Engineering, the placement percentage is almost 100%. Detailed placement stsats can be found here: rvce.edu.in/placement-statistics (Copy paste the link in your search bar)
College Events
Multiple fests and technical summits are conducted every year. Prominently, E-Summit (Entrepreneurship Summit) is conducted in January/February during which there are plenty events that test your management and technical skills. Also there is The 8th Mile which is the fest of RVCE held on February/March every year. It is just like any other fest but has a lot more popularity and a happening crowd with plenty of fun filled events to take part in.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is a tad expensive. Based on your entrance test, the fee varies: KCET- 72000 per year COMEDK-1,60,000 per year. Management Quota-As decided by them. However, the fee keeps increasing by a few thousands every year. For KCET students, the fee is manageable. And the COMEDK fee also seems to be worth it. However, for underprivileged students under the KCET banner, caste certificates reduce the fee in a wholesome manner. Even Super Numerary Quota the fee is reduced to a limit.
Fees and Financial Aid
There's a scholarship program for students belonging to the category of whose family income is less than 4 lakhs per year. However, I haven't been able to avail any of this as I do not fit into the category.
Campus Life
The campus life is very happening. It is built on approximately 40 acres of the 55 acre campus and the lighting, and the infrastructure, roads are well above average. Gender ratio is about 1girl:1.7boys. There are plenty sport events and also an annual sports meet that takes place in the odd semester wherein everyone is allowed to participate. Workshops are held very often and technically, the college has been doing a lot for the progress of students in terms of knowledge. No sort of religious/ economic/ethnicity intolerance has occurred till date in this college.
Hostel Facilities
I don't live in a hostel. However I've heard from my friends that the hostel rooms are satisfactory. The mess food seems to be on the dissatisfactory side as I've heard friends complaining either the lack of taste, or quality of the food. Also, the mess follows a weekly repetitive time table as to what to prepare for the day which gets boring after a month. However hostel rooms have to fit 2-4 people in a room based on the size of the room and also the year you are in. Hostel blocks are different for each year and so is the mess. Some blocks have been renovated recently and hence they are excellent, while the rest are still mediocre.
Alumni/Alumna
The college has an amazing alumni network. Many of them are in well known companies in top posts. In terms of helpfulness, I can not really comment about this as I've not made an effort yet to establish contact with them. The seniors are helpful if you've asked for help, in general, there is no ragging that takes place in the college campus. Majority of the people are nice and the do not chuck unnecessary attitude unless you behave that way.
Exam Structure
Every semester in every course have at least two labs a week and are conducted strictly in accordance with the time table. This is both, good and bad. Sometimes it feels hectic, but is also good that it is taken care that labs are completed on time. Exams called as Internals are conducted in the second, third and fourth month of every semester and the Semester End exams are conducted in the end. The schedule is given well in advance, which is all very good.
Admission
Once the results of the entrance test (KCET/COMEDK) are out, there will be a counseling session wherein you'll have to give the preferences of the courses you want to select and then, after confirmation of your course, you can approach the college's admin office wherein details of the admission fee and other fee structure will be given. Then, the date will be mentioned by which the form must be collected from the Admin office and the fee must be paid via Cheque/DD to the Kotak Mahindra Bank present in the campus of the college. Approaching to the college happens in early July and then the college reopens on August 1 each year, so the deadline would be approximately end July. The college website is informative regarding the fee structure and also the admin office is helpful in guiding the necessary processes.
Faculty
Faculty in the college are pretty experienced and are a treasure house of knowledge. As far as I've seen, it's more or less how well a student can synchronize with the teaching of a teacher. In terms of knowledge, the faculty can be rated 8+/10. However, in terms of teaching, there are extremely good ones as well as average teachers. The faculty in ECE department are very enthusiastic to teach the particular course and give their level best to do the required.
