Remarks

The management tries to involve only so much when it comes to students and thus give necessary amount of freedom. It is always supportive of what students want to do and even contributes positively sometimes. Institute is quite friendly in all the formalities and shows patience in every aspect. These are the things which helped it bag back to back first ranks in NIRF rankings of Indian Colleges.

Entrance Preview

I took JEE Mains, scored 297/360 to get qualified for JEE Advanced in which again, I secured an AIR 509. I opted IITM for its reputation in Electricl Engineering and research oriented curriculum.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course curriculum in Electrical Engineering is a bit stressful and challenging, but nevertheless it is the best quality in the country. The emphasis on developing research skills is simply awesome. Industries too flock at the campus placements to recruit people into various streams. The curriculum is also liberal to a required extent which lets one explore various departments.

Internships Opportunities

No, the college as such doesn't provide any internship. There are two ways to get a chance to internships with a professor - one is by mailing him your credentials and qualifications and leaving the decision to him. Second is through national level science internship program organized by the government to let people do intern at IITs or IISc and other elite institutes. In this case, government pays around 5k per month.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placement process is quite smooth. You need to register with the placement cell which maintains a personalized website listing all the companies, their bios, package details and examination info. After clearing exams conducted by the companies, interviews are conducted. The average no. of companies which come for EE dept is around 200. The avg salary package will be 8-10 LPA. Companies of many different streams do come for the placements.

College Events

5

There are two main events: Shaastra - the international tech fest and Saarang - cultural fest. Both the fests are really huge attracting staggering number of footfall every year. Both are 4-5 day fests with many events, workshops and entertainments. Shastra always pushes the boundary of innovations and Saarang keeps introducing great pop culture. Many international bands, famous singers like Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal-Shekhar etc took part in the festival. Apart from these two, there are various institute level competitions for technology as well as literature and arts. They are divided in TechSoc and LitSoc respectively, which involve active participation by all the hostellers.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is enacted in slabs. Open category students who are above a minimum income threshold need to pay complete fee without any waivers. The fee is generally expensive for them. People who are below the income threshold and people of backward castes enjoy an almost full academic fee waiver along with a monthly scholarship of 1k (through MCM). For these people it is quite feasible. Everyone has to pay hostel fee nevertheless, which is fairly feasible.

Fees and Financial Aid

As I have mentioned above, people who are falling the minimum income threshold will get a scholarship. Also there are two banks in the institute, Canara and SBI, both of which do offer loans at affordable interest rates to the students. These things are sorted out on the document verification day itself where banks open counters and inform clearly all the formalities.

Campus Life

4.5

Campus life is truly great, I think it is the best India can offer. The campus is a huge 630 acre lush green tropical forest which is a home for many exotic trees and wildlife like spotted deer, blackbuck, bonnet macaques (monkeys), foxes, variety of insescts etc. Gender diversity is not close to ideal, but the institute is quite liberal in its ideas. The institute is always vibrant with many student groups actively organizing workshops, sessions, lectures, seminars and conferences. The amount of activity you witness is humongous. These groups include robotics, electronics, formula racing, arts, literature, politics and even, spirituality. The institute is basically maintained by students who are elected through general elections. They have a legislative council, senate, where bills are introduced and passed just like Indian Parliament. Those discussions are quite interesting and thought provoking.

Hostel Facilities

4

First year the room is given on a sharing basis which seem to quite small to fit two people. But from the second year, single rooms are given whose size is fairly manageable. Facilities in hostel are quite good which include 2-3 washing machines per floor, multipurpose playground, badminton court, basketball court, kits for most games, TT Table, Billiards (in some hostels), Foosball etc. Mess food is not very tasty but healthy. Utmost care is taken by the institute to ensure the quality of food and cleanliness. There are also multiple canteens in the college and some of them even operate over the night. There are also quite good number of restaurants around the institute.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is very vast and well maintained. They are frequently contacted for funds for various activities in the institute and they have always contributed actively. Senior students are very helpful. They give valuable advises and play very crucial roles in us taking proper career decisions. The whole atmosphere is really friendly despite the competitiveness.

Exam Structure

The exams structure depends upon the professors interest. Most common method is two conduct 2 quizzes and 1 end sem. Some profs conduct 1 mid sem and 1 end sem. Some replace one quiz with a project. Labs are generally in the afternoon and that once or twice in the week. Probably only one day in a week seems hectic, most of the days are chill.

Admission

After clearing JEE Advanced, there was an online counselling to select the desired college and branch. After we are allotted the IIT Branch and Dept according to our priority and AIR, we were called to nearest IIT zone where our documents were verified and seat was confirmed.

Faculty

5

The faculty are simply world class and top notch. Work with them on any project is a great privelige. They set a benchmark to the excellence in their respective fields. They never go easy on a student and aim at extracting the best skill and talent out of one.

Specific schedule is not followed in college regarding the academic and co curricular activities. Sudden decisions will be taken by the management which is a bit difficult for the students and faculty too. There were times where faculties are fed up of management rules and decisions.
