Remarks
Memorable is the word. Though I am not from Maharashtra , I stayed at hostel and sharing my experience. The First few days are difficult to adjust climate wise, new place, new friends and all. Interaction with seniors . For South-Indians, the food culture is different from the southern states and might pose problems. There are various places in and around The campus that serve excellent south Indian food. The difficulties faces in initial days are very trivial as compared to the big picture. The huge and lush green VNIT campus, it's infrastructural abundance and very hostile atmosphere. South Indians get many seniors from their respective states and hence are accomodated to the juniors-seniors hierarchy very easily. South-Indians,naturally blessed with intelligence and dancing abilities, make their mark in academics and extracurriculars very easily. If you are on the verge of embarking this roller coaster of ride in VNIT, then fasten your seat belts, and enjoy. I assure your ride would have more high points than low points and you would end up with a bundle of experiences, both good and bad, and the years would be - Memorable.
Entrance Preview
GATE(Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) in year 2014, Score=674 , VNIT will have a better peer group as students from different states come to VNIT to study. These students have good score in GATE entrance exam. Faculty in VNIT is better . The funding required for keeping faculty and helping in research is easy to get for NIT rather than a state autonomous institute.Placement is good as number of core company recruit directly from campus.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is quite good and a lot of thought is put into it. It is all very systematic and if there are any changes done, we are informed before hand regarding the same. There are a lot of students who are much more inclined towards research and they are given equal opportunity and guide. Centre of Excellence is a research body funded directly by the central government. We also have a Centre for VLSI and Nanotechnology. Research being done there is the best among the NITs and better than many IITs.
Internships Opportunities
Just before the academic session began this year ( 2016), Qualcomm and Seagate visited the campus for internships and their criteria were as follows : Qualcomm : CGPA 8 and above and no current backlogs. Stipend 20k. Seagate : CGPA 7 and above and no current backlogs. Stipend 25k More companies including Mediatek, Marvell Semiconductor, and many more are expected to come for internships this year for VLSI Design Students.

These included all the major companies like Coal India, Reliance Group, Jindal group, L & T Group, Bajaj Auto Limited, InMobi, Oracle, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, ZS Associates, NMRCL and many more. Campus Life
Advantages/Facilities of campus life at VNIT 1)LAN ( DC++) : Unlimited movies, series , anything and everything that you need. I rarely used to search for any content on net. Dc++ had everything( Its a sharing hub where everyone in LAN shares content from his hard drive thus creating a huge pile of resources) 2)Friendship : Live in a campus for 4 years you are bound to make friends. Friends you can trust and rely on. 3)GPLs : Latenight Birthday celebrations and well sometimes for no reason at all ;) 4)Night canteen( Chandrama): One of the best things ! There is a night canteen to serve with delicious Samosas, Poha, tea and it remains open till 4 am. 5)Mini-stores(shop)/ Laundry shop/ Cycle shop( it was 3 rupees per hour at my time)/ Day Canteen 6)Library : A really good library with many books available for your semesters and novels and other good reads as well. 7)Gymnasium 8)Classes nearby to hostel( used to wake up 5–10 minutes before classes and join in just in time before Profs denied entry to classes ;) ) 9)Really nice clean and beautiful campus. Always used to stroll and felt so good taking a walk in campus. 10)Big cricket ground. Awesome ground, nicely maintained hosting many college events. 11)Big auditorium. ( All the events and functions used to happen here. Its one of the best place to be during an event. The crowd, the performance..simply mesmerizing.) 12)Tennis court. Many more to list but the idea I wanted to give enlisting these facilities is that you can have all the fun and learning inside the campus. The sex ratio has improved steadily in last five-six years. The girls are still restricted to hostels after 9 PM. They cannot go to library/reading room.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels in VNIT is better. Single room is provided to PG students. Hostel Fee for PG Student: 1st semester 33800 2nd semester 31600 3rd semester 32700 4th semester 31600 PG students will have Single seater rooms which is far more better. Mess food is good. You will have High speed LAN or Wi Fi in your room. Other best thing there will be 24 hour electricity and water. One big TV room will be there in each hostel and Night Canteen upto 3 am. Especially for boys there will be no in time i.e One can go out and come in to the hostel at any time midnight or anytime without anyone's permission. In short it is a pleasure to live hostel life here.
Alumni/Alumna
VNIT Alumni Association abbreviated to VNITAA. I will list down a few pointers about it - It is a comparatively new association. Even though the institute is decades old, the association was formalized only recently. For the short period of its formation, VNIT AA has done an incredible job with many student initiatives. VNITAA launched an open course called Entrepreneurship course for students. Quite a few students have launched their own startups under the course which have now done wonders example - ScholFin. It provides need based scholarships to students It has an internship drive every year to ensure students get summer internships in companies where the alumni are placed because the institute has very few opportunites for summer interns through the main campus. The alumni in themselves are very helpful. They have a Yearly Alumni Reunion YAR each year, which helps you interact with alumni. Overall, commendable work by the VNITAA!
Exam Structure
Course evaluation of Lecture / Tutorial component shall be on the basis of two Sessional Examinations, one End Semester Examination and Teacher’s Assessment through tests, quizzes, assignments, seminars, group discussions etc. Sessional examinations & End-semester examination should be conducted and result shall be declared as per schedule in academic calendar. Sessional examination shall be of 1-hour & end semester examination shall be of 3-hour duration.

Admission in VNIT through GATE Entrance exam. M Tech Admissions at VNIT, Nagpur are through online Centralized Counselling , CCMT. CCMT full form is Centralized Counselling for M.Tech. It is a Counselling for all the Gate qualifiers who are willing to do M.Tech from all the NITs. Notification will release in the month of April.
Faculty
VNIT has got highly qualified professors and on top of it, they have a personal understanding towards students which aids in connecting with them. Most of them will help and guide you in all your academic endeavors, when approached. All the professors are trained experts in their fields. Because of the courses that are taught here are in coherence with the practical usage in industry. Moreover there are continuous revisions in the course structure to accommodate more practically insightful subjects. Some of the dynamic Profs that I encountered were Prof. Patrikar, Prof. Dhok, Prof.Deshmukh. I am sure that you will get a positive feedback about most of them from any member of the academia who has been in their influence.
