Bitter sweet

Hislop is a very good college, probably the best bet in Nagpur. The only bad experience I had with the college was the partiality that is being done in the department and its not new even some seniors told us about the prevelance of it. All in all I enjoyed being here made a lot of friends as well as enemies

I gave all the entrance exams but unfortunately did not get admission in any top college outside nagpur.. Therefore I opted a top college in nagpur.. They do not take any entrance exam but you need to have good percentage in bsc. I will suggest you should pursue biotechnology from out of nagpur only.

The course structure is not in the college's hand... Nagpur University itself does not have a new and revised syllabus... So it is best that students should opt for colleges from other universities which give a main focus on practicals as biotechnology is a practical based course.

In M.Sc biotechnology there is a compulsory thesis submission in 4 th semester, I had a really bad experience of it. We were told in the college that we will be allowed to go for dissertation only in 4th semester but after going outside we got to know that many people start doing their dissertation way before that. So we were not well informed and the college faculty stressed that we should go out of the college for dissertation, while the girls who were teachers pet were allowed to do dissertation in college itself that too from semester 2. We were completely kept in dark about all of this. So make a well informed decision about the dissertation and do not expect much help.

For the biotechnology courses not only our college but in Nagpur University itself, only call centres come to the colleges. Very rare occurance of biotech companies is seen. The packages that these companies provide are more and less the same for the graduation students as well as the postgraduate students and they are not even related to our field.

Hislop college is known for it's events and celebrations, it is a very happening place in nagpur, each day there is something or the other going on, but my department is not very much linked to the events that take place. Everything here depends on individual participation, overall hislop is very good for extracurricular activities.

Fee structure of biotechnology has always has been higher than other basic science courses. It is not government funded, so basically it os student funded department. Thus fees are a little high but worth it if you can make the best of it. It is any time lower than engineering, and you can apply for some scholarships too depending on the marks and caste that you belong to.

I have no idea about the scholarships because I come under open category so there is not much that I get. I just know that there are some scholarships which are provided on the caste and marks basis.

I cannot answer for the whole college, because our college is totally divided in departments and I was in college only for 2 years,but overall ambiance of our college is very cool, many students from different states come to study here, some of the courses of hislop are very well known. It is a Christian college which has accomodated all types of students of all races and types.

I was not a hostelite, I was a localite and thus I do not have much idea about the hostels but I had some friends who lived in the college hostel, the current warden is very strict and the in timing is just 6 o clock. But the hostel is good and the food is also good, but they do not provide snacks, that the students had to manage by themselves.

Our immediate seniors were quite helpful, but because of the semester pattern we do not come in much contact with the seniors, they were very warm to us and helped us when needed.

It was good, some classes were taken after which a full day practical used to be there, but if you are a student with high goals and standards it is not for you. Everything in nagpur happens in a very slow pace. The students who want to really do something in the field of biotechnology I suggest them that they study hard and try to get in a reputed college.

I just needed to buy the brochure from the college. Fill the brochure and give them money and my certificates. Overall the admission is summed up... After the admission exam fees and clearance is the extra money that has to be paid. The admission process is not at all lengthy or cumbersome, anyone can easily be admitted to this college.

The faculty of hislop school of biotechnology is very good. Everyone is very intelligent and good in their subject.. This is the best you can get in Nagpur, but they are also very partial.. Many students have to face this bias. They even give less marks in internals and in M. Sc internals are very important, so if you are a student who can remain on the good books of a teacher hislop is for you. If you are a free spirit then please do not come here.
