Remarks
Overall it was nice being at Great Lakes. Atleast for me it was Life Changing. My Before and After life is 180 degrees opposite.
Entrance Preview
CAT, CET, NMAT, GMAT, IIFT, XAT , I opted for Great Lakes as it advantages of much better faculty, good teaching course, rigorous curriculum, International teaching exposure and much more
Course Curriculum Overview
The course at Great Lakes is pretty rigorous, you always need to be on your toes to accomplish things on time. We were engrossed in studies, projects and other things from Day 1 of the college untill the last day when we left. There is a one-year empirical project which every student has to undertake wherein s/he does an indepth research one particular topic and publishes the results.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, Internships are provided by the college. Our internship season was in 2014 but many things have changed since then. We had companies from all the sectors viz FMCG, Manufacturing, QSRs, IT, Finance, Banking and others. Several Internships offer got converted into PPO as well.
Placement Experience
Placements are facilitated by the college, and it starts off November onwards. The companies coming placement week are quite good and provide attractive packages as well. The average offer will be around 10-15 lpa in the placement week, which absorbs around 60% of the batch. The remaining batch gets placed in next 30-45 days. Great Lakes has a record of 100% placement since its inception. Though there have been cases where students have opted out of the placement process citing persona issues. Average Package in 2015 season was around 8-10 Lpa. Things are quite different now.
College Events
There is some or the other event in the campus every 2 weeks. Each committee will have its own events. It starts off with Business bazigar event, wherein you've to do business for stipulated period of time. Then Marketing, Finance, Operations, etc events keep on happening. There are few flagship events like Lattitude for management fest, one for cultural, one for sports, one as Freshers as welll.. There is no dearth of fests at Great Lakes
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is on par with other B schools I will say Though there are couple of colleges whose fees is very less than GLIM, but certainly there are outliers. In 2013-15, fees were around 13 Lakhs, which had to be paid in 2 instalments. 6.5L immediate, remaining during start of Year 2. The fees is inclusive of Hostel, food, books, course, etc. The addon expense will be the personal expense which one has to bear
Fees and Financial Aid
Great Lakes does provide monetary awards for Rankers. It gives 1L to each subject topper, and 3 L to batch topper. Loan facilty has to be availed from outside. College provides the documentation for the same.
Campus Life
The gender ratio of Male: Female is 65:35 with students coming from varied geographies and background. The entire environment is quite chilled and liberal. There is no inclination for or against towards anyone. Students stay here like a large family and are in support for anyone who is in distress
Hostel Facilities
Hostel and mess food is inclusive in fees. Hostels are Air Conditioned, and for PGDM it is dual sharing. The infrastructure is very good and is one of the best in the Country. GLIM ranked as one of Top 10 Beautiful campuses in India Mess food is also very nice. You get breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks and Dinner. The variety is too wide in all the meals.
Alumni/Alumna
The college overall has been quite young compared to other colleges in its league. Most of the students are in premature phase, and it'll take 2-3 years more for them to bloom out. Though there are few notable alumni which can found on the college's website
Exam Structure
Exams are totaly unpredictable and depends on the professor on how s/he wants to conduct it. There have been times, wherein we entered the examination hall, and newspapers were handed over to us. We had to answer the question paper referring to the news paper. There are times wherein we had to go through simulation courses whose exams last continuous 10 hours. There have also been subjective, objective, procedural, etc exams. Also there is a project submission for each course which has to be dealth with subject-to-subject basis.
Admission
There is 2 admission cycle, first one is in December and another one I suppose was in January. I applied in 1st cycle itself by filling an online form. Great Lakes selects candidates on the basis of the profile, so many people who scored more did not get the call, while few were able to compliment their low score with diverse and tangible work experience. The selection process comprised of GD, essay writing, PI. The process was systematic and smooth.
Faculty
The faculty of the college is very top notch. There is a wide mix of professors who have 1. On ground Experience 2. In Depth Research Experience The 1st type of professors bring in lots of relevant Real Life examples in the classroom, which really helps understand the on the ground reality. Also it is very relatable when you start working The 2nd type of professors bring in lots of research material, and prepare us for tomorrow's challenges. The width is solutions and content discussed with these professors is truly rich. The discussions end up being in intellectual phase. There are several International faculties who visit the campus to undertake the course.
