Remarks
The admission during my year was on the basis of my JEE Mains Score. Counselling was conducted by JOSSA and CSAB board. During my year, JEE was conducted by CBSE but now it is conducted by NTA. Exam patterns, marking schemes and number of attempts are also changed now. Now, you get two or three attempts per year and the result comes in percentile. All details regarding JEE application can now be found at www.nta.ac.in. After getting a good percentile, you need to sit for counselling which is still conducted by JOSSA. Around 5-6 main rounds and 2-3 additional rounds are conducted every year. Various types of quotas especially home state quota and reservation quota are applicable. The home state is the one from where you completed your 12th. Spot rounds are very crucial and game-changing. If you have a low score, you should try for these rounds. Also, you can opt for a lower branch and can upgrade it later by branch change. You can find last year's cut-offs on the JOSSA website itself.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is changed recently in 2019. In our case, absolute grading, less flexibility, fewer electives and an old syllabus were there but from 2019, a new advanced and updated curriculum is adopted with relative grading, new syllabus, new electives and more flexibility. Faculty to student ratio is quite appropriate and you can always approach any faculty in case of doubt. All faculties are well qualified and knowledgeable and more importantly, all are very supportive. Two CTs and one end sem are conducted in a semester. All tests are conducted timely as per the academic calendar. Passing criteria is very liberal but you need to put effort to achieve that passing criterion also. If you attend classes regularly and follow up with faculties regularly, you can easily score 9+ pointers else you can also fail. The electrical branch here is very good and reputed. Placements in electrical are also very good both in core and non-core. Also, it has received "the best department award" twice.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities are offered in the 5th and 6th sem. Generally, companies that come for placement, offer these internship opportunities. Some companies are GE, Adobe, Amazon, Wipro, Paytm etc. You need to have a good project to secure this opportunity.
Placement Experience
Placements are very good here and it is improving year by year. Placements get started from the 7th semester only. Many good companies start visiting the campus in July-August. Some of the prominent companies are Amazon, Adobe, Paytm, Goldman Sachs, Deollite, Optum, TATA, Vedanta, CIL, EIL, BPCL etc. visit here with a very good offer. There is the policy of one student one offer. The average package is around 9 LPA and the highest one is not known to me. You get sufficient opportunities for placements. Placement is also almost 100% in my branch. I opt-out of placements and decided to pursue higher studies. I am now an MS scholar at IIT Madras.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure here depends on case to case basis. Your category and family income determine your fees. For general students with income >5 LPA, it is around 1.35 lakh/annum. For gen/obc with income 1 to 5 LPA, it is around 48k/annum. For GEN/OBC with income<1 LPA and SC/ST, it is around Rs 6500. You can visit the website for more info. Various types of scholarships are provided to you. You can avail CG scholarship if you are a resident of CG, NSP scholarship, merit cum means scholarship or Institute scholarship. You can also take funds from the alumni association in case of an emergency. Campus placements are very good. Irrespective of your branch, you will definitely get any job (core or non-core) with a good package. So, in the end, I can say, the course is very much affordable and the course output is very much promising. You will not regret joining this Institute.
Campus Life
NIT Raipur is very much popular for its fests. One of the important fests is "Eclectika- Central India's largest cultural fest" and "Aavtran-Central India's largest technical fest".You will enjoy it a lot at these fests. Apart from it, others are " Shruti, Samar" and many more. Apart from it, there are so many clubs and committees for your overall development. Some are Ecell, Sahyog Club, Go Green, Ntriyam, Abhinay, Technocracy and many more. You can join any committee depending on your interest. All basic facilities are provided to you by the institute. Books are easily available in the library and you can also take books from the book bank and book donation event.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are very good but the main problem is that hostel seats are very limited. You need to get a good CPI in order to secure a hostel seat. Hostel H is newly built recently and comprises five floors. Triple sharing rooms are provided and you can choose your roommates. Mess quality is average but very good on Saturday when you get some special food. Most students reside in nearby places due to a lack of sufficient hostels. You can very easily find pg at an affordable price.
