Remarks
The course I took had no entrance exam and was based on the marks of the 10th and 12th boards. The course eligibility required more than 50% in the science stream including the marks of the mandatory subject English. The application forms are easily available online on the official website of Barasat Government College. There exist reservation benefits but I had not availed of any. The admission process is quite easy to follow through and satisfactory.
Course Curriculum Overview
I had taken up the course in Physics due to my interest in the field of Physics, especially the mathematical implications the subject entailed and also because of my awe of the sky. I chose this college because it has a good location which is easy to access and safe, situated across the Barasat police station, 10 minutes of walking distance from the Barasat station, 20 minutes walking distance from the Titumir bus stand (chapadali). Also, the college is provided with better facilities and more capable faculties. The faculty on average is very standard. The faculty-student ratio varies from department to department. On average the faculty: student ratio comes down to 1: 15. The faculty present are very capable. All of the professors hold professional full-time PhD degrees in various fields. Most of the faculty members are involved in active Research and development programmes. The exams were conducted timely and with great care. The exams contained questions of moderate level of hardness
Fees and Financial Aid
The college being a government college is very affordable. Even after the fees hike has affected the yearly fees that had to be paid, it still remains affordable. The admission process itself requires less than 1000 including the application form and all the forthcoming procedures. The semester fees sum up to around 800 for a single semester. Hence bringing the yearly total fees to be paid around 2600-3000. Monthly which comes down to around 200-250. Which is a very affordable fee range even considering the fees hike. All state-funded scholarships are made accessible like Kanyashree and The Vivekananda Scholarship. Central funded scholarships are also made available such as the INSPIRE scholarship.
Campus Life
The Annual fest is generally conducted in the months of July - August, just after the new session starts. The annual fest includes cultural programmes which support the local creative communities such as local bands and singers. Sadly, there does not take place any tech fest. The books present in the library are sufficient and the collection is impressive. There exists one main library situated in the main building of the campus, and there also exist smaller libraries in each department to accommodate department-specific books. There are few sports activities that are held with vigour on our campus. The annual interdepartmental cricket tournament, the interdepartmental football tournament and the annual badminton league are the major events worth participating in. Apart from that the open ground across the Annex building provides an open ground for any casual sports and games. The indoor games are easily accessible in the community hall which is spacious and welcoming to all students.
