Remarks
Facility at the college is good, faculty needs improvement. and strong alumni interactions are missing.
Entrance Preview
AIEEE other options was to select between electronics at Ranchi (BITS Mesra) or chemical engg at surat i was never interested in Electronics nor going to Ranchi i took up Civil Engg at NIT Surat since Chemical engg doesn't interest me.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course is pretty good mixture of practicals and theory infra-wise college is good.
Internships Opportunities
Internships were not a mandatory part of our curriculum and I was interested in management, so didn't take up any technical internship, but I did a summer job as Sales executive, because I wanted to get into marketing later and I thought sales experience will help me later.
Placement Experience
Placements are decent, but I have heard it has improved since I passed out. During my placement around 2009, Indian economy was suffering due to Global market crash of 2008. So placements in all the colleges were tough during that period. But even during that time, our college managed to achieve almost 95-98% of placement. Companies like Infosys, TCS, etc which otherwise would recruit around 90-100 students from our college recruited only 20-27 students max during that time. The average package during that time was around 3.2 LPA with majority of students getting into IT companies but college offered equally good opportunities for Core jobs in the companies like LnT, EIL, NTPC, HPCL, AMdocs, etc in 2007-08, companies like Google and Microsoft also visited the campus i ahve heard in recent years, they have visited the campus again for recruitment and selected a few students.
College Events
There were 2-3 kinds of fests that were celebrated there, Technical - TechFest (Feb), AutoFest (Oct), Cultural - Sparsh (Feb), SpimacyTechFest included many events, not just technical, but also management related. Eg: Bulls and Bears, AdMad, Debate, etc tech events - mins 3 per dept. and many fillers sparsh was all about Fashion shows, Music concert, Singing & Dance competition. TechFest and Sparsh were celebrated together, TechFest in morning and Evening Sparsh.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Very economical since it is a govt college during my time, the odd-semester fee was Rs. 9,000 and even semester fee was Rs. 6,000 no otehr fee was taken.
Fees and Financial Aid
I heard scholarship was offered to students from weaker section and few students who came from nepal i don't have much idea about it since I didn't avail and never bothered to enquire about it.
Campus Life
My life in the college was wonderful gender ratio - was skewed (when it was REC) geender ratio improved after the college was converted to NIT for our batch the gender ratio was F:M - 1:6 the faculty was conservative, so we had some restrictions with regards to dressing and boy-girl friendship. Sometimes faculty didn't like girls/boys sitting next to each other or to be seen together in the campus. Hostel parties hardly happened at girls hostel but boys partied a lot in their hostel. At girls hostel we usually celebrated birthdays or had fun at night canteens or after college events, nothing more booze is strictly restricted in the hostel but it could be easily sneaked in availability of booze was a bit of a problem because of Gujarat being a dry state initially, the process for selecting college head and CR was done by voting, later it was changed and it happened on the basis of merit cultural societies were many in the campus, Don't have much idea regarding this.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels were decent and economical new hostels were made while we were leaving luckily I got to stay in new girls hostel which was fab and near the gate tehre are 3-4 girls hostels and 8-9 boys hostel. Food was decent at hostel and in-time for girls was 0
Alumni/Alumna
SVNIT has good alumni network and seniors in the college are very supportive i had good rapport with all the seniors, who were like my friends they guided me on curriculum, about life in hostel, placements, etc but I felt huge gap between senior junior interaction after new hostels were made we had alumni meets and we also have alumni networks on LinkedIN, who help us in future also our alumni are all at good places. A lot of them are also in US.
Exam Structure
There were 4 types of exams conducted every semester 2 Unit exams 1 mid-term 1 final semester exam the days were usually chilled out except during submissions and exams students had night canteen facility specially available during exams so they can even
Faculty
Faculty is old and not so updated they are bit traditional in their approach but the faculty is involved in a lot of govt projects, so their practical knowledge is good.
