BITS Pilani in a nutshell

Admissions are through BITSAT, a national entrance examination specifically for admissions into the 3 BITS campuses within India. Eligibility for admission through this test is a minimum of 65% on boards in each of Mathematics (or Biology for B.Pharm applicants), Physics and Chemistry and an aggregate of 75% in those 3 subjects. Applciation form and registration can be done via the BITSAT website and portal. The same portal can later be used for choice filling for programmes and submitting the registration fees for admission. Since this is a private institution, there is no reservation. the admission is entirely merit-based. There are a total of 6 iterations (counselling lists), however, in recent years due to covid, there have been more.

The curriculum is extremely thorough and evaluations are difficult and challenging. An average of 1:100 faculty ratio is maintained for each branch in most lectures, however, for tutorials, the group is divided into 2 or more sections. The faculty is extremely well qualified and have done their PhDs from illustrious institutions in India as well as abroad, with extensive research experience. Unfortunately, not all the faculty members are friendly and helpful. The evaluations were done in a timely manner without any delays, except in case of a covid outbreak. The system for rechecks and makeup request are very strict.

2-3 internship opportunities are available throughout one's degree depending on the requirements and courses. Just like placements, a lot of top companies come for internship season at the start of both semesters during the final year of a student. apart from this, a summer internship programme is also offered to students right after completing their 2nd year on campus. Alternatively, a student can opt for a thesis instead of internship, depending upon his/her preferences.

Placements on our campus are some of the best in our country, with probably the best consistency among the whole batch as almost everyone is able to get placed if they intend to do so. Most of the top global companies come to recruit students, and the average package is also very high. They can be as high as 1 crore, but the minimum a company is allowed to offer is 6 LPA. Close to 100% placement was seen this year.

The standard fee for a student is around 2,40,000 for a semester, with a 15% increase every semester as per their policy. Mess charges and other minor charges are additional, but the hostel charges are included in semester fees since the hostel facility is mandatory. Students can apply for scholarships based on both merit and need. it covers a substantial portion of the fees depending on the criteria of the scholarship availed.

Campus life is extremely vibrant and buzzing, everyone is into interesting hobbies and is driven towards their goals. The library is one of the best in our country and offers extremely rare and old books as well. all the latest journals are also available for students to read. Classrooms are well furnished and maintained for the most part. depending on your course, you may have most of your classes in the new state of the "New Academic Block" or NAB. Sports facilities are good and available to students without much issue. maintenance is also very good. Our teams also regularly compete in national university-level competitions. There are 3 annual fests conducted, one each for Cultural events, Sports events and technical presentations. all 3 of them are some of the most popular in our country. student-run clubs and departments are thriving and easy to join.

hostel facility is decent, its better than most places. meal quality is also okay, nothing to write home about. Registration process for hostels is simple ans systematic. There are no PG facilities as all students are required to only stay in hostels.
