Overall Experience in VNIT

Getting admission to VNIT is quite tough. The admission form can be found on the CCMT website. As it is a National Institute of Technology, you need to qualify GATE examination. The admission process is easy and transparent.

The course curriculum for Excavation Engineering is average. Student Faculty ratio is 20:1. Only some of the faculties are knowledgeable, the rest are inexperienced and new to this field. Exams are taken every month and also at the last semester's examination. It is not that tough to pass the examination.

Internship opportunities are good in this college. Faculties help students find paid internships. The second year of the MTech student is purely project-based. You need to choose one topic related to your course and then the whole year round you need to give presentations and a thesis on the project. At last external examiners will come to evaluate your projects.

The placement of VNIT is very good. The average package for CS & IT students is 12LPA. But for core branches, the average package is quite low around 6LPA. Core branches MTech students rarely get placed in core fields. Most of them step into banking and IT companies. The highest package offered by banks is 12LPA, and by IT companies is 30LPA. My plan after getting this degree was to go for higher studies.

The fee for excavation engineering is 40000 per semester. And it goes on hiking every semester by 5-10%. We also get a stipend of Rs.12400 every month if getting admitted into the MTech program. Placements are very good for CS and IT. Not at all good for core branches.

Numerous events and fests are organized by the student cell each year. A huge number of books are available in the college library. Classrooms are well maintained and most of them have been converted to e-classrooms. Sports like Cricket, Football, Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Table tennis, and Squash can be played and huge grounds and courts are available. Social groups and clubs like music club, sports clubs etc. are available for students.

In your hostel room, you will get one bed and one wardrobe. Each room is having a separate balcony. PG students get single occupancy rooms, while UG students get double occupancy rooms. Mess food quality is average, and the menu keeps on changing as per students' demands. Registration for the hostel can be done online on the vnit website. The monthly rent is Rs.8000 (inclusive of Hostel and Mess).
