Campus Life

You can never do too much good in this world; definitely not in the direction that this world is taking. (For all we know, good deeds might just be banned in the near future). But despite the odds, here are some phenomenal young women from India who've been breaking conventions left, right and center with their projects and movements. We believe that they are slowly setting things right, one person at a time. In light of the 107th International Women’s Day, we celebrate these bold women and their ventures and hope this spark ignites the flame of ambition in every mind!

Hostel Facilities

4.5

What is the first description that comes to your mind, when we talk about Hostel food – Bad, dirty, stale, cold food? You can take your pick but we are sure adjectives like good, delicious, heavenly will not be suitable for the food cooked in Hostel Mess. And you thought we at hostels eat vegetables? No, way! It is a luxury. You might be lucky to witness all the possible gourmet inventions here only if you can stand bhindi and aallu mix (ladyfinger and potato). Also Carrot and Bottle Gourd Raita. Now a ‘GK’ question – Which is the most common thing you see in mess? Yes we all know the answer. It has to be nothing else but hostel’s national vegetable “Potatoes”. You get them anytime, anywhere and everywhere.

Alumni/Alumna

Greetings from the IHM Alumni Golden Cat Mad Fest organizing committee As you might be aware, our IHM Chennai is celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year (1963 – 2013) and we take immense pleasure in bringing you the program to celebrate this milestone. It has been finalized to have a grand gala celebration to mark this historic occasion on the 16th of August 2013.This date was fixed, taking into account the convenience of the MADCATS who are spread across the globe. It happens to be summer holidays for MADCATS from the US, UK, Europe, Middle East and Australia. It also happens to be a holiday on 15th August (Independence Day) and if people take a day off on 16th, they get a long weekend. The event commences at 10 am and as alumni’s, we should all gather at the institute and have a small function to felicitate and honor the current and retired staff (both teaching and admin) over the last 50 years. It is also proposed to honor the first batch of pass outs (1966) with a memento. Following this, we are looking to have a few seminar / workshops /demonstrations for the current students as well as recent passed out alumni’s, wherein the stalwarts of the industry will demonstrate their skills and knowledge. It has been proposed to have a cookery demonstration by a Michelin starred Chef, appreciation of single malt whiskies from an expert, a friendly MAD COOKOUT between 2 highly acclaimed chefs from the industry as well as other forums and speeches. We will also be asking the leading suppliers to the hospitality industry to put up their stalls around the campus, wherein there would be displays from kitchen equipment manufacturers, F&B suppliers, uniform and housekeeping vendors etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is well structured and relevant to current academic and real world needs,it hepls built astrong foundation knowledge especially in my field geography, the syllabus also supports preparation for competitive exams and higher education. Exams are conducted regularly and difficulties level is moderate, which helps in consistent preparation, however adding more practical assessments instead of only theoretical exams would be beneficial Overall the curriculum is good but it can be improved by including updated topics more hands on learning, and modern teaching methods
