Remarks
The infrastructure is quite amazing. IIT-Kanpur is well structured. Campus Life is sorted after joining this college, you just need to adapt which is obvious when you step out of your comfort zone. It's IITK, so I think everyone is aware of the placements. Profs are just one mail away!
Course Curriculum Overview
I want to pursue research as a career. I was confused about IISERs and IITs, but I chose IITK for its alumni network and exposure to engineering courses. The academic Flexibility of IITK is way better than other IITs! By the end of my 3rd sem, I'd done courses from CSE, Data Science, Mechanical, Maths and Scientific Computing departments apart from my parent department.
Internships Opportunities
Jaguar is for car designing and other automobile fields. Optimer, IBM for software. Samsung for everything you can imagine. Intel for the chips. Even Google hire from various departments like Maps which hire Civil Engineers. Project opportunities are easily available. Professors and various clubs are offering projects.
Placement Experience
For internships, it's 3rd semester but sometimes you also get offers via mail. I earned 5k in just 6 days from my internship during 2nd semester. Major companies like Optimer, Microsoft, Jaguar, Intel, IBM, Samsung, Boeing, etc. visit here. More than 95% of students get placed who opt for placements. Those who want to pursue research also benefit from the alumni network.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees were hiked in 2014 last time and no increase since then. Mess prices might have varied according to the seasons. Scholarships are available in plenty and there's an SSPC office for that. Your student guide will help you with every aspect of your college life.
Campus Life
We have a cultural, sports and tech fest. One is conducted by the end of the odd sem and two in even semesters. Covid has changed their actual dates. The library is grand and old, and has everything a student needs. Sports and extra-curricular need not require any additional info, everyone's aware. The Clubs are way more than what you can expect, and in case you don't get the one you want, just create it and your name will go down in the history!
Hostel Facilities
Hostels change after your 1st year and 3rd year, so you live in 3 different hostels- Hall 13, Parent Hall (2,3,5,12) and Hall 1/9. Hostel registration is pre-done at the time of admission. Mess is great and from 2nd year onwards, you form a Hall Executive Committee whose one of the many jobs is to decide the meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
