Wonders at IIT Kanpur

You need to clear JEE Advanced to get admission to IIT Kanpur (You can sit in JEE Advanced paper once you've cleared JEE Mains). In 2022, the closing rank for IITK was 9676 for a General Male candidate (You can look for closing ranks on the JOSAA website). The admission process is absolutely easy and hassle-free.

I chose civil engineering at IITK because of my family history with civil engineering. Though faculty: student ratio is quite decent here but that is not an issue because most of the academic and non-academic activities here are managed by student bodies. All faculties are highly qualified and highly knowledgeable, one such example is our ex-faculty, Dr. HC Verma. Academic pressure at IITK is a little high compared to other engineering colleges. Passing exams is not a big deal but maintaining a good CPI is a tough job.

I haven't got an internship yet but our seniors have told us a lot about the internship scene at IIT Kanpur. A lot of companies visit our campus for giving internship opportunities to students because companies too want to work with brilliant minds from India. Many startups also reach out to IIT Kanpur for offer internships.

Students from the second year can apply for internships and students start getting placed in the third year. Top recruiters are Amazon, Apple, Axis Bank, EXL, Google, ICICI Bank, Intel, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Sterlite, Vmock, and Zomato. In 2022, a student was placed at Jane street with a package of 4.2 Cr. Almost all the students who apply at placement cells get placed in good companies. My plan after getting a Civil Engineering B.Tech degree is to go for Indian Engineering Services.

According to me, the fee structure is very nominal in IITK, keeping in mind the campus and qualified professors provided to us. Various government and non-government scholarships are available for students of IITK. Also, a fee waiver of 100% / 75% / 50% is given to students by the institute based on their financial conditions and caste.

There are three main fests organized in IITK, Techkriti - Technical fest, Udghosh - Sports fest, and Antaragini - Cultural fest. A large collection of books is available in the PK Kelkar library of IITK (for non-academic books, the book club is always open). Classrooms or lecture halls are well equipped and well maintained. All types of sports activities are conducted on campus and also if you do quite well in some sports, college can help you get into the national team too. Now, talking about the clubs. You just name a club and it is available in our college.

All students must reside in the hostel. You get a table, two beds, 2 chairs, a 1-bed table, a cupboard and a small wall cupboard in a 2 seater room. Rooms in hall 12 and hall 13 are good as these are the two new build halls. Old halls do look old from the inside and outside as well. Hostel charges are very affordable. The quality of food at IITK is really good. It's just that you'll get bored with the menu and taste in a month or so then you'll have to visit the hall canteen regularly.
