Life at IIM-Vizag!

I had a technical background but I want to look into the business aspects of any organization, learn managerial skills and develop a network for better opportunities in the future. IIM Vizag has Student to Faculty ratio of 1:9 with all facilities with a Ph.D. from top B-schools. The faculty takes a sincere effort in making students understand. There are midterms and end terms with in-between quizzes and project presentations with a moderate difficulty level.

Companies like ICICI bank, Axis bank, EY, etc. came for summer placements and offered stipends ranging from 30000-1 lakh per month. Job roles offered were in marketing, finance, consulting, digital marketing, etc.

Summer placement starts in September in the first year which is the beginning of the second term and for finals from the fourth term. Cognizant, ICICI bank, EY, Axis, and ICICI Lombard are some of the companies visited for recruitment. The highest package for last year was 31 lakhs with an average of 15 lakhs. The college records 100% placements.

Earlier the college was working on a temporary campus, therefore, the fees were a little low however since it moved to a permanent campus it has increased the fees a bit. The total cost of study including tuition fees, mess charges, hostel, etc. for me was around 17 Lakhs. There are immense scholarship opportunities for OBC, SC, and ST candidates. The college also provides financial aid to the low-income group. A stipend for a summer internship ranges from 30000-1lakh per month.

The college has various fests-for example: Sangram, where IIMs from the south compete together in various sports, there is Yuddh within the college, and as part of the cultural fest we have Samarambh. As part of the business cluster, we have Vridhi a two-day event with various guest speakers, etc. The college has a lot of books and provides access to a variety of databases for literature searches. We have smart classrooms, with charging ports on the desks. For sports, we have a TT table, a mini-gym, 2 pool tables, a cricket ground, etc. There are a total of 24 clubs run by students like Zorba, and Manthan.

The hostel is single occupancy with a single bed, AC, study table, and office chair. The room has a remote-controlled fan. For study purpose, a whiteboard and pin board is also provided. There is enough shelf space for books and clothing. The mess menu is highly varied with different sweets on each day. Fruits are provided for breakfast daily. The hostel is mandatory for the course so we can't rent a PG in the locality.

For admission, you have to appear for a CAT exam based upon that the college releases a list of shortlisted candidates via mail based on the cut-off percentile set by the college (last year 85 percentile). There is no separate application form for the college, a link to the google form will be shared in shortlisting mail for basic details. Shortlisting calls will be around January.
