Course Curriculum Overview
IIT Bhilai is a premier institute in India with a distinguished department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. As an electrical engineering student, I was exposed to both electrical and computer science courses, providing me with a well-rounded education. I was fortunate enough to secure a placement with Paytm thanks to the excellent support and knowledge of the faculty. The institute follows a unique three-tiered exam system in place of traditional mid-semester and end-semester exams, making the learning experience much more manageable. Though the difficulty level of the exams varies from course to course, generally speaking, the exams are quite easy, and the grading system is excellent. Overall, I can confidently say that IIT Bhilai is an excellent institute for those looking to pursue a career in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Internships Opportunities
At our esteemed institute, we have been fortunate enough to receive a multitude of internship opportunities from reputed companies such as VMWARE, ARISTA, Newzera, and many more. The range of companies that come to our institute is a testament to our academic excellence and industry relevance. The highest stipend offered by Arista was an impressive 65k per month, which is a testament to the caliber of companies that come to our institute for internships. These internships are a great way to gain hands-on experience and apply theoretical knowledge to practical work.
Placement Experience
In the seventh semester, the campus placements begin, and it is a great opportunity for students to start their careers. The institute witnesses participation from several reputed companies such as Amazon, Paytm, Arista, AirAsia, and Accenture, to name a few. The highest package offered during the placements was a staggering 44 lakhs, which was offered by Accenture Japan. Around 60% of the students got placed, and it is quite impressive. I am delighted to share that I also got placed in Paytm, and I am eagerly looking forward to joining the organization after my graduation.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fee for each semester is 1 lakh and the hostel and mess fees are approximately 50k. As the cost of education can be a concern for some students so the institute has a number of options available to help students manage the financial aspect of their education. They offer a seamless education loan process, which is designed to assist students who require financial aid to pursue their studies. They also have a provision for students whose family annual income is less than 1 lakh, in which they will be waived from paying the tuition fees and only required to pay the hostel and mess fees. Furthermore, they offer a 2/3rd reduction of tuition fees for students whose family annual income is less than 5 lakhs.
Campus Life
IIT Bhilai is a remarkable institute with a remarkable annual cult-tech fest, MERAZ, held in November. Also, the institute has several active clubs and societies that conduct various activities and events throughout the year. The Central Library of the institute is well-equipped with books relevant to academics, and students can also access the General Oratory and Liberal Arts (GOALS) Library, which has a vast collection of novels, and the Dramatics Society Library, which has screenplay books. Furthermore, IIT Bhilai encourages students to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle and offers the Essential Physical Activity course during the first semester. For the 4-year course, students are required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of either Social Activity (NSS) or Sports Activity (NSO). The institute has numerous cultural and sports clubs, as well as clubs promoting mental health and LGBTQ awareness, along with several other engaging societies.
Hostel Facilities
In terms of accommodation, I would like to bring to your attention that there are some areas where improvements are needed. The hostel rooms are shared between five people, which may make them appear cramped at times. Additionally, the presence of frogs in washrooms has been reported, which may cause discomfort to some individuals. The water facility requires improvement, and it is recommended to use water filters. The quality of the messy food can be inconsistent, with some meals being satisfactory, while others may not meet the standard. The hostel registration process is completed at the time of admission, and it is mandatory to stay in the hostel provided by the institute.
Admission
In order to be considered for admission to any of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), prospective candidates must meet a series of eligibility criteria, the primary among them being qualifying for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced. For those interested in pursuing a degree at IIT Bhilai, the application process is facilitated through the JOSSA counseling portal. Eligible candidates who belong to categories such as OBC-NCL, SC, ST, GEN-EWS or PWD are granted certain benefits during the admissions process. The process itself comprises seven rounds, wherein after the first round, students are required to reserve their seat by paying a counseling fee. However, if a student chooses to opt-out of the counseling process, they can do so by withdrawing their application and the associated fee before the sixth round. After the conclusion of the seventh round, students who opt-out of counseling will be barred from applying to any of the IITs for the upcoming academic year.
