Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because I was always interested and intrigued by the underlying functionality of electrical devices and appliances and the course structure would also allow me to explore other fields as well. The faculty-to-student ratio of the electrical department is decent around 4:1. Most of the faculty members are very highly qualified, with PhDs and Post Doctorates from top-ranked foreign universities. The teaching methods depend from one professor to another but overall from my experience the teaching is good enough. Since most exams are graded on a curve, some students may find the courses hard to pass but generally, the courses are very structured in a feasible manner and evaluations are spread out throughout the semester.
Internships Opportunities
Students in their 5th Semester can sit for an internship drive at IIT Delhi. All the major companies come to IITD to hire the best quality students in the country. Tech and Quant's companies pay lakhs per month for internships. About 50% of the students end up getting a good internship from the on-campus drive.
Placement Experience
B.Tech students in their 7th semester can sit for the on-campus placement drive of IIT Delhi. All of the big multinational corporations, tech giants, etc visit the campus to hire from the best the country has to offer. All the students applying for placements end up getting placed at IIT Delhi. The highest package offered varies year to year but is in the crores. I also plan to sit for campus placements in the technical or quantitative field.
Fees and Financial Aid
The cost to study is not very high when compared to the private colleges of the nation. Scholarships are available based on merit and financial background and financial assistance of other forms like fee reduction is also available. I was not eligible for applying for any scholarship but some of my friends have received them.
Campus Life
Life at IIT Delhi is always very happening. There is always something interesting happening on campus whether that be academic or extracurricular. Rendezvous, the cultural fest of IIT Delhi, is the largest fest in north India easily overshadowing other colleges. Tryst is the technical fest of IIT Delhi and it is also carried out on a large scale with footfall in lakhs. The library is well equipped with all kinds of educational books and journals up for issues. Debating Society, Quizzing Club, Dance Club, Literary Club, etc are some of the well-known clubs and societies of IIT Delhi which keep the students engaged in various activities throughout the year.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel rooms are spacious and are equipped with fans, tables, chairs, bedside tables, beds, an almirah, etc. The mess food quality is very good on most days and chicken and eggs are available separately on a payment basis. Egg bhurji and paneer bhurji can be purchased with coupons during lunchtime. The menu is very elaborate with every meal having multiple food choices.
Admission
Students who have cleared JEE Advanced after JEE Mains with the required rank are eligible to apply for this course at IIT Delhi. General students scoring in the 90%ile in JEE Mains are eligible for applying for JEE Advanced that year through the website. I found the application form, application fees, and application dates on the JEE Advanced website itself. I did not avail of any Reservation Benefits to apply to this course. An improvement that I want to see in the admission process is to make it more merit-based and less caste-based.
