Course Curriculum Overview
Well, I choose this course because this is the best which I can get at my rank, but after joining the institute, this course sounds interesting to me. The faculty: student ratio here is around 1:9. The faculty is highly qualified here and have great knowledge of their respective fields, however, I would say that they somewhat lack in teaching. Most of the students have to study by themselves to get good grades in exams. Plus the academics at IIT Kanpur are hard. Within a few weeks of the beginning of our semester, quizzes were organized and after a few weeks, our mindsets started. Just after the midterms were finished, we got the dates for the end seems, which took place one and a half months later. In short, you will have to give exams very frequently. If you want to pass, you'll have to study one week before the exams, but if you want to excel, you'll have to study hard and regularly.
Internships Opportunities
Being a fresher, I don't have much knowledge about the internship opportunities available in the campus, but I do know that a large no. of students gets internship every year upto 2 lacks per year and even more.
Placement Experience
In terms of placements, IIT Kanpur is the best IIT. Its average package is Rs. 33.5 lacs per year and the CSE average is 42 lacks per year. This year the highest package was received by an electrical guy which was 4.2 crores per year and the highest domestic package was 1.9 crores per year. A large no. of companies including GOOGLE, MICROSOFT, and AMAZON. GOLDMAN SACHS, JANESTREET visits IIT Kanpur. Students are eligible for placements after the 7th semester. The placement percentage is not disclosed by the institute and since I am a fresher, I have no clear idea about it. After getting the degree, I am planning to write UPSE CSE.
Fees and Financial Aid
For the first semester, I had to pay 148000 rupees out of which, 17000 rupees were refundable and 10000 were for mess extras. There are a lot of scholarship opportunities available here depending on the needs and academic performance of students. For students taking admission in BS courses (except BS Economics), Inspire scholarship of rupees 60000 per year is also available irrespective of their family income.
Campus Life
IIT Kanpur has a large campus of 1055 acres. However, you'll usually wander around only 300 acres. Life on the campus is nice. The campus is very beautiful and the sports facilities are well-maintained. We have here one hockey ground, one football ground, one PE ground, and several other grounds. The campus is full of greenery. One thing I especially like about IIT Kanpur is its culture. It has hall culture, wing culture, baapu culture, and many other cultures. The annual cultural fest is ANTARAGINI and the tech fest is TECHKRITI. Both of them are going to be conducted this year in March and I haven't attended them yet, so I cannot review them. Regarding the availability of books, the PK Kelkar Library has around 4 to 5 lac books and you'll find most of the books you need there. There are 20 lecture halls of different sizes and the new ones are very good. IIT Kanpur has the best OAT among all the IITs and is the main hub for cultural activities.
Hostel Facilities
Fresher boys of IIT Kanpur are allocated Hall 13, which is large and has a capacity for around 1000 students. Students are allocated either double or triple rooms. The triple rooms are spacious. Double rooms have one almirah, one table, and two beds while triple rooms have two almirah, two tables, and three beds. Double rooms are meant for a single student and triple rooms are meant for two students. The mess of Hall 13 is not very good, but not very bad either. Sometimes the food is good and sometimes we have to eat in the canteen. You also got some extras in the mess for which you have to pay. The hostel fee for one semester aisaround rupees 14000.
Admission
IIT Kanpur takes admission in UG B.Tech. courses based on JEE Advanced rank. Usually, it opens around 100 ranks for general candidates and closes around 9500 ranks. For a student to write JEE Advance exam, he must have qualified JEE mains, which is organized by NTA twice a year (usually around January and April). The counseling is done through JOSAA in six rounds. The application form for JEE Advanced starts around June after the declaration of JEE Mains results. The application fee is rupees 2800. Usually, the result of JEE Advanced is declared within 10 to 15 days after the exam, after which the counseling starts, which lasts for about one month. After the seat allocation in the sixth round, I got an email from the institute congratulating me on admission to the institute, followed by some other email having the login credentials. IIT Kanpur also allocates a Student Guide to students, who mentos them in their initial days and introduces them to the culture of the college.
