What Students Say
Likes
- The hostel life is great. People work as a unified entity during inter-hostel competitions.
- Exposure is great. You get to meet a lot of smart people. Big personalities come to the college to address students.
- Club activities. A lot of competitions are organised by different clubs and you learn a lot by joining clubs too.
Dislikes
- Courses. They are really difficult and are very fast. You can be taught a 1000 page book within 4 months.
- Exams. The exams are quite frequent in the form of quizzes. The main exams are also hectic since you need to give around 4-8 tests in like 4 days.
- Grading. The grading is relative. So even if you did very good in a course, you might not get a good grade if people outperformed you too. There is extreme competition.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Mechanical Engineering because this was the best I could get on my JEE rank. The student: faculty ratio might be around 1:10. The faculty are highly qualified Professors who got their PhDs from prestigious universities, and many of them have been past IITians too. The pace of courses is quite high and it is difficult to understand everything, unlike school. The exams are really difficult but the grading is relative. So your absolute marks do not purely determine your grades here.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are offered from the 1st semester of the third year. The process is similar to placements. The job roles are varied and students get a good amount of money. But getting an internship is harder than a placement because the number of internships is somewhat lesser.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for on-campus placements from the 1st semester of their final year. There a lot of companies which take tests and then shortlist students on the basis of performance in tests, department and their CGPA. Then students have their interview once the semester ends. Most of the students get placed. But not everyone gets a very good package. The average package might be around 12 lakhs.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees significantly increased a few years back. It is around 1.12 lakhs per semester and around 30000 per semester for the hostels. There are a lot of scholarship opportunities that students can apply for. The above-mentioned tuition fees are for those whose family income is more than 9 lakh per year. If it is lesser, then there are different categories and fees are lesser.
Campus Life
There are a lot of clubs. There are cultural clubs, tech clubs, social clubs, etc. The annual fests are Rendezvous, Tryst, Kaizen, Sporttech, and a few minor ones. There are a lot of books and journals available in the library and can be searched online. There are a lot of sports and extracurricular activities.
Hostel Facilities
The rooms are decent. You can comfortably live once you get a single accommodation room. The quality of food is good and the administration is easily approachable for any problems. There are different hostel cultures and it is really enjoyable.
Admission
Anyone who has cleared JEE Advanced is eligible to pursue B.Tech. in IITs. The application for JEE Advanced can be made only by those who clear JEE Mains first. The application forms are made available on standard exam times every year on the respective JEE websites. I hope the admission process stays the same.
