Dislikes
- The academic load is quite high here at IIT Delhi.
- The gym is not that good and timing slots are very small.
- The sex ratio in the campus is still near to 1:4, which is better than most engineering colleges but still low. The girls and boys hostel are a little far away.
Course Curriculum Overview
My course is B.Tech in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology, it's a research oriented field which has a significant impact on today's healthcare. I took this course becuase it was a mix of several things, like preffered college, light curriculum, future driven branch. The faculty student ratio is around 1:15, and the faculties are from really qualified having PHDs from reputed schools. The exams are tough, averages go low but it is in a way that someone studying with dedication and focusing on clases can excel.
Internships Opportunities
Oncampus Internships are really good here, with almost half students being offered by companies. All the big MnCs com here, like Google Adobe, Microsoft, they give good stipend like 1-5lakhs/month, but students also get upto 20 lakhs/month stipend from quant companies.
Placement Experience
Ofcourse, the placements are best here. Whethr it core jobs, finance, consulting, or tech. Placeemnts are offered at about the end of 7th semester, and we have near to 100% placemnet record. The highest plackages internationally go upto 2.5 - 3CRs, and domestically 1.5 Cr. The average is around 20-25 Lakhs.
Fees and Financial Aid
The 4 year cost here including hostel is around 12Lakhs, and there is no such fee hike policy. There is Tution Fee waiver for students having family income less than 5 lakhs per annum. IITD Endowment Schlorship given to meritous students given on the basis of their GPA.
Campus Life
1. Infrastruture is top-notch here, the lecture halls are quite modern, the Central Library with it's vast collection of book remains all time opened with temperature contolled environment. There are places to eat and sit all over the campus, and like ther IITs the campus is of a very practical size, so everything isn't that far. 2. We have a 4-day Cultural fest, Rendevous which is one of best in the country and a tech fest Tryst. There are few others too, like BeCon, Sprenza, Kaiza, Literati. 3. We have good sports facility, almost all the sports are available to play. We have mutiple grounds for outdorr sports. Two buildings SAC and Mittal Complex are specially for these purpopes. 4. We have mutiple clubs, icluding all sortrs techincal clubs for coding, F1 car making, Robotics, Design and cultural fests like photography and films, music, dance and also social clubs.
Hostel Facilities
All the students have to stay at hostels here, but some opt to live at their home. Freshers usuallly get double or triple sharing rooms, which are good, second year also get double, from third and fouth year you mostly get single rooms; you would have a cupboard a shelf in the wall and another rack on a wall. The food at IIT D Hostels is real good. The menu is decided for a semester, and but there are alot varieties, sweets are available at night, you get all sorts of breakfast, paneer is 3-4 times a week. It's pretty good.
Admission
The admission in IIT Delhi, and in general IITs happens through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). It is held in two levels; the entry level, open to all examination, JEE Mains and then JEE Advanced. JEE Mains is given by about 9-10 lakh aspirant every year. Colleges like NITS, IIITs and few other colleges take admission thtough it. Further then the 2.5 Lakh people in the JEE Main stand a chance to give JEE Advanced, which is the way to IITs. Around 17k students get into IITs, and the general category cutoff for JEE mains to give JEE Adv is around 88-89%ile. There is reservation benefit across the board, and girls get special reservation as speciifc number of seats are reserved for them. Suppose someone belong from the OBC-NCL category, he will get a particular branh at a patricular college, at a CRL Rank of 2.6 - 3.2 times the general category student e.g. IITD B.tech in Biochemical Engg and Biotechnology closes for general category at around 4.5k and the OBC guy 11.6k.
Other Applied Colleges
BITS Pilani (Pilani Campus) | Bachelor of Engineering [BE] {Hons.} (Electrical & Electronics Engineering)
EE is a tougher and effort requiring branch, also I wanted my college to be an IIT; moreover Biotech is a relatively free branch so I would get time for other stuff too.
