Course Curriculum Overview
Btech- Materials Science and Engineering is a good course, You get to learn many theoretical as well as numerical subjects. Topics like the solid state are Important. I have chosen this course because I preferred college over a branch, but now I can say the branch is also good. Most people apply for software-related jobs. Almost all students get placed. Getting an internship is quite a difficult task, but that's for every branch. The class size is not too large, so if you like to interact with professors, you can easily do it. Most of the professors are Ph.D. from foreign universities. They teach quite well, students usually study a few days before the exam and can pass the course by just seeing the slides provided by the professors.
Internships Opportunities
Many companies provide internships. People from branches like Earth Sciences got internships in Goldmann Sachs just because they worked hard. Most companies hire for placements and internships irrespective of the branch. The number of students selected for an internship is lower, but almost every student is placed.
Placement Experience
Students are placed in their 7th Semester. Placement is one of the best in the country. Every branch is treated equally in placements for 80-85% of Companies. Some companies open exclusively for CSE, EE, and MTH students. Overall Placement for every branch is good. Having a good CPI is a plus in placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tuition Fees are about 1 lakh per semester. Mess establishment charges are over 13k per semester. Roughly, the semester fee is around 1.25 lakh per semester. i.e. 2.5lakh per year. Tuition fees depend on your income. For income greater than 5lakh per annum, Tuition fees are 1 lakh per semester. For income between 1lakh and 5 lakhs, the Tuition fee is Rs 33,000 per semester and for Income less than 1lakh per annum, There are no Tuition Fees. There are many scholarships available like Merit-cum Means Scholarship, Donor Scholarships, and external scholarships.

Hostel Facilities
There are many hostels in IIT Kanpur, hostels are allotted randomly. In my hostel, there are both triple and double rooms. Triple rooms are larger, 2Tables and 2Cupboards are given in triple rooms. In the double room, 1 table and 1 Cupboard are given. A hostel is given to all students. Those who want to become day scholars can apply later for that. The mess menu is overall good. It changes from time to time. The mess menu is completely managed by the student body of the respective hostels.
