Remarks

College management is poor. Some of the teachers are just too irresponsible. Even school teachers seem to be more responsible than them.

Entrance Preview

IIT JEE, PESSAT, MUOET, COMEDK, SRMJEE I was interested in computer and programming, so it was pretty much decided that if I'll do Engineering it'd go with either CS or IT.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

1st-year subjects literally cover basics of every other branch of Engineering, like Civil, Electrical, Engineering Graphics with subjects like Mechanical, Biology, EVS adding up in next year. Little focus is paid in subjects that define our branch.

Internships Opportunities

They don't provide an internship. It's totally on you to get the internship somewhere. All they help in doing is providing a bonafide certificate which will help you in applying for the internship. Internships are done to get practical knowledge as well as to utilize the skills that you have. But students take it an advantage and submit fake certificate to the college and get marks in any college. In SRM every student must have internship program after 4 SEM and 5 SEM. That is student have internship credits in SEM 5 and SEM 6.

College Events

4

All kinds of events, festivals are held, not in our Campus but in the main campus, we have to go to the main campus to attend the event. Coming to the events, one of the most famous events held in SRM is Aaruush. Aaruush is the techno-management fest of SRM UNIVERSITY. It comprises of the workshop (10+) covering all the engineering domains, 50+ events, expos like coin, stamp, NAVY and Airforce, industrial conclave, guest lectures, quiz, unconferences, informals, aaruush nights and much more. The footfall of aaruush is 40000+. In 2016, India's no 1 hacker came for a workshop in aaruush. The industrial conclave is one of the best learning platforms well for participants. Guests like former president APJ ABDUL KALAM, V.K Saraswat sir, Sam Pitroda, Anand sir (founder of super 30) and many other big personalities are associated with it. Aaruush nights includes pro-shows, band, movie are also very much entertaining.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The university fee structure changes every year. Better to stick with the updated/official structure given in the university website. If you want a random figure, it will be around 3.5 to 5.5 lacs per annum, including everything(academics, stay and entertainment). For all B.Tech. , annual Career Development Center fee and book fees have to be paid as per the following details: • Book fees payable annually is Rs. 15,000/-. The fees must be paid by DD (in favor of “THE BOOKS & Equipment STORE”) payable at Chennai. • Career Development Center fees for Value Addition courses is Rs. 20,000/- The fees must be paid annually by DD in favor of “SRM AXIS INTELLECTS (I) PVT LTD.” payable at Chennai.

Fees and Financial Aid

The scholarship is given based on your rank (in the entire department) and marks. But, and there is a huge but. There are on an average 500 students in each department in one year out of which only top 8% of students get scholarships. That comes down to 40 students, even if you get there by working hard and smart (it is very important to get marks in SRM), it is little too difficult to maintain it for four consecutive years. They also give a scholarship to the SRMJEE toppers. But if you're a branch topper then you can contact your year coordinator for scholarship, they may help you.

Campus Life

4

The gender ratio is very low, campus life is the okay type, there're many extracurricular activities going on throughout the year, like debate, quadcopter/drone challenge, FIFA, etc. Students from all over India are here, so there's no question on diversity.

Hostel Facilities

3

The hostel is good, a mess is an utter shite. Rooms are airy, you can choose between AC or non-AC, for AC they charge about 110k, whereas, for non-AC, they charge 65k. Hostel rooms have three sitters, 4 sitters, 6 sitter and 8 sitter option as well. Students can choose whatever they prefer to go with. There's no power cut problem by the way. They even provide free WiFi. Bathrooms are common for everyone. They are pretty much hygienic at most of the times. The mess is way too gone to describe. The people over there hardly knows how to make North Indian food. But they do serve non-veg twice a week. Hostel has some of the most sick rules, you can't have an iron, in case you want it to get pressed, pay for it. Can't possess any other electrical equipments other than smartphone or laptop, Bluetooth speakers, electric kettle, iron etc. are strictly prohibited by the hostel management. If found having any of them, can be fined with whatever amount of money that suits them. There are many PG's around college hostels, at affordable price and considerably lower than hostel's. It's way better to live in PG than in college's hostel, where they don't even provide half of what they charge us for.

Alumni/Alumna

Haven't got a chance to interact with the seniors. But have read some of the positive reviews from our passed out seniors on Quora, also got to know about some of the notable alumni from SRM University.

Admission

Cleared the SRMJEE, got called up for counseling, CSE at Ramapuram campus was up for grabs, so I took it. After counseling, I had to attend enrollment procedure in SRM, For the enrollment process. I had to come to the campus on the given date. I came early since there are a lot of students turning up around 11:00. I then had to take all the documents required, here is the list- Provisional Allotment Order (issued at the time of Counseling). Tuition / Book / CDC Fee Paid Receipt(s). (Those who have paid online, please bring the transaction receipt.) Mark List of Qualifying Examination (HSC, CBSE, ISE, Intermediate/Other Board), NATA score card (for B.Arch students only) (TWO Xerox copies) Transfer/ Conduct / Migration Certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied. Community Certificate (Issued by the Govt of Tamilnadu/ Puducherry) Four copies of recent Passport size photos. Ration card, Passport, Driving License, Voter ID, Aadhar Card as proof of address of the parent. My parents had to wait outside and as they weren't allowed inside, the students were supposed to get the things done themselves. The process was going on in TRAP AUDITORIUM, I was given the acknowledgement slip in the end after completing the enrollment, that slip was further used to issue identity card.

Faculty

3.5

The faculties have quite a bad temper if you get in their wrong side and their way of teaching is way worse than what you would expect from a college that boasts of such statistics. Most of the teachers lack true knowledge and just skim over the subjects they are teaching you. So many times our teacher stopped in middle of the session because she got confused or didn't know the explanation. Many of the core subjects teacher simply dictates from their phones in the class and expects you to copy the same in your Laboratory NoteBook and get it corrected the next day. Kattankulatur campus has better faculties, as it's the main campus.

Specific schedule is not followed in college regarding the academic and co curricular activities. Sudden decisions will be taken by the management which is a bit difficult for the students and faculty too. There were times where faculties are fed up of management rules and decisions.
