Remarks
Mechanical department was a super star and about college, it was a decent facility but wish they would have considered us like all other branches
Entrance Preview
CET Karnataka. I do not remember the score. However my ranking was somewhere 7000 and according to which I had made list of colleges. As per the list BEC was one of the choice. Though it was 150km away from my hometown and took almost 5-6hrs to reach Bagalkot then
Course Curriculum Overview
Though ancient but a decent enough to trigger thoughts. Syllabus hasn't changed for at least last 25-30yrs. I understand that we have to learn the basics of engg but also the advances in engg weren't the part of our curriculum. That was a little boring part of the syllabus. Teaching was interesting as staff were master of this syllabus
Internships Opportunities
No, they followed then VTU curriculum. So private internship wasn't an option at all. However we did internship and final year project in industries of our choice.
Placement Experience
Being a remote location, not that great. But compared to others mechanical engineers are capable enough to find livelihood in the wild corporate out of the college walls. Many of the engineers are really doing very well in their life now and settled well
College Events
No Principal Dr Herkal was dead against doing college festivals, events, extra curricular activities, national level project participations etc. Funding was a big headache and as an institution it never allowed us to do anything of that sort. We felt like we were in some jail, college wasn't as fun as it was for others
Fee Structure And Facilities
It was a govt aided college and fees was as per govt guidelines. But exam fees, revaluation fees etc was really costly. Due to tougher question paper we had to struggle with marks and on that valuation wasn't in par. We had to put 3-4 papers for revaluation and get approx 30-40marks after Revaluation. For VTU it was money making scheme, but for students it was life-&-death situation. Have you ever heard of recounting fees. How a professor evaluating answer sheet gonna do counting mistake !! We paid fees for that as well
Fees and Financial Aid
No, nothing as such. Student loans were available at premium charges then. But since we were from middle class, had no guts to take loan or pay interest to it. Managed somehow and pushed till the end
Campus Life
In mechanical gender ratio was 100:1, for our batch it was 100:0. No girls at all. As quoted above, no parties and activities. Even to organise fresher welcome it senior farewell it was very hard to get permissions. They didn't give us hall or necessary permissions like mike, electricity, projector etc. Politics was there always, between the departments and between the professors. Considering IT boom, management was more aligned to computer science , electronics, information technology branches. Being a core engineering branch, we never got that attention. But we always rocked in sports, campus interviews, career and life. Our mechanical department staff was very good. They always helped us to do presentations, talks, seminars, guest lectures regularly. The gave sneak peek into the outside world.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel and mess were very good till Dr SV patil was the Incharge. A strict military grade professor with lots of enthusiasm and student friendly nature. He was pushed aside because of internal politics. Soon after he quit the job as well. After him hostel wasn't that pleaent and quality of food wasn't appreciable
Alumni/Alumna
Our mechanical batch mates are connected and most of are in touch with Mechanical department. Staff still recognize us and always welcome us
Exam Structure
VTU regulations. Controlled driven, monitored, moderated by strictly VTU situated in Belagavi. There were internal exams 3 times, then practical exams and at last the final exams. Internal exams were for 25marks and main exams were for 100marksm College was very strict about copying and any of the mischief. I'm happy that we wrote fair exams and we are what we're because of such tough culture.
Admission
Through proper channel of CET. After PUC exams, we had to write a CET exams conducted by govt of Karnataka. They will take our PUC exam results and CET score into consideration and give us a state ranking. According to the Ranking we will also get schedule to attend the CET counselling. We had to select the college of our choice and get admitted to the same
Faculty
Rock stars of the college. They were very friendly, cooperative, supportive and always guided the people who approached them. Many staff helped students in choosing career, further education and in all other crisis. They always wanted their own students to do well in life. Frankly they were honest and never had any baggage with them with students
