Remarks

Frankly, it is a government college. Work done is slow like any other government office. I think they can manage their work a bit more efficiently in an organized manner.

Entrance Preview

Entrance was through 12th merit. Scored 90% in CBSE 12th commerce. I had also appeared for CLAT - common law admission test. I scored 131 in 2009 and got admission in Nirma College of Law, GNLU and HL (not through CLAT, it was a commerce college). I ultimately decided to go to GLC because it gave me the option to live in Mumbai, right next to the Bombay High Court which had a lot of exposure to prominent law firms and a great internship experience.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is quite comprehensive and contains all important fields of laws. You can also opt for specific courses like IP law, taxation, international law in the 4th and 5th year. I think the course can be revised to make it a lot more interesting for students. The faculty has improved a lot but still cannot be considered in the category of NLUs.

Internships Opportunities

Not really. One needs to find internships on their own. The college did have a placement committee, but very few positions are available as compared to the number of students who sit for the placements.

Placement Experience

3.5

GLC is one of those few places where you can get a lot of exposure to not only the prominent law firms and lawyers due to the close proximity to the Bombay High Court, but also the alumni who takes a keen interest and always available to help students secure internships. It is a pool of talent and it is on you to make the most of it. The college timings are very flexible and allow the students to intern all year round. Ultimately this is what helps students secure permanent full time positions at top law firms.

College Events

4.5

Loads of moot court competitions, cultural days, guest lecture series. It might not be as great as Xaviers when it comes to cultural events, but law related things are given a lot of importance to. Muns too. Plus it helps you meet other law students from top NLUs and you end up making a lot of valuable friends and connections throughout your 5 years.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Very feasible. When I was studying, the fee was only around 12,000. Plus a lot of us who qualified for a higher merit during our admission process were provided 50% reimbursement, making our fee per year to be only 6000! I don't think I need to say more.

Fees and Financial Aid

Each batch has three sections - A, B and C. The college provides 50% reimbursement to the sections A and B, which brings down the already low tuition even lower.

Campus Life

3

Campus life is ok, gender ratio is quite good. In fact we had more number of girls than boys in our batch (2009-2014).

Hostel Facilities

2

GLC does not have its own hostels. It does have a couple of government hostels around, but those only give priority to low income groups. Sadly, I was not able to live in those hostels. The food I heard was very okayish. Nonetheless, there are few really good working womens and working mens hostels in the vicinity which have decent food. Students also take up PGs or rentals either in town or in the suburbs, as those might be cheaper.

Alumni/Alumna

College seniors are extremely helpful and always ready to help you out with any questions, notes, moot court research or questions about life in general. You can always contact them and they would be happy to help you secure an internship.

Exam Structure

It was quite chilled out to be honest. You have the flexibility to intern throughout the year and study for exams 1-2 months prior to the exams, which was enough. A field like law requires more of a practical experience, which this college encourages you to do and not just sit in the library all day long.

Admission

In 2009, admission was through 12th merit. Scored 90% in CBSE 12th commerce. During my admission process, we were only supposed to fill a form and attach our 12th grade marksheet. The cut-offs were different for science, commerce and arts. The process might have changed now.

Faculty

3.5

I think the course can be revised to make it a lot more interesting for students. The faculty has improved a lot but still cannot be considered in the category of NLUs. There are hardly any assignments or projects. Moot courts are optional. Some of the best professors Mr. Pithawala, Mr. Daswani, are doing really well. GLC needs more such faculty who take a deep interest in the education.

From 4th Year of the college the student is eligible for a pre-placement offer, main placements happen in the Final year i,e. 5th year. Companies that hire majorly are Tier-1 and Tier-2 law firms, like AZB, Khaitan&Co. Average package goes to about 15-16LPA. My plan is not fixed yet, but I aim to pursue SEBI or RBI law officer exam.
