Remarks
The imposition of fines for which there are no receipts given is a major drawback.
Entrance Preview
I took Common Entrance Test conducted by Karnataka state board and chose EEE as it was touted to be the toughest of all the branches in Engg. as well as passion for Electricity Generation processes and methods.
Course Curriculum Overview
Since the course structure and curriculum was as per the VTU curriculum, the same was followed. There were limited scope for research and the facilities and infrastructure impeded the research focus. Out of the various electives as prescribed by VTU, the selection of electives was based on majority. A rule that a minimum number of students should opt for an elective ruled out many electives that I personally was interested in.
Internships Opportunities
No. At the time of our course, there were no companies offering any internship. Hence it was by a candidate's personal contacts that he landed an internship.
Placement Experience
There were a lot of IT and software companies like Infosys, Cognizant, Subex, L&T infotech and others. A few elite companies offered a package of max 6.5L p.a. and the average package was around 3 L p.a for all other companies. The limitation here is that there is no dearth of IT/Software companies but there is acute shortage of core companies for non-IT/Software branches.
College Events
The events were good and on par with the events held in other colleges. there were events such as slow drag, concerts, all varieties of games and sports. The highlight is the Annual College Festival-INTERACT- which hosts Rock Band performances (Verses was the one on top of my mind), Fashion Show, Drag Race, Computer Gaming, Dumb Charades, Folk Dance, Light Music, Ethnic Dressing and many others.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is slightly on the higher side and there are many miscellaneous fees and fines prevailing in the college. Even though they would have charged a sum as examination fees, they would still get it paid by students during the exam time. The bad part was the common breakage fees for issuing hall ticket (Rs. 100) for which even a receipt was also not being issued.
Fees and Financial Aid
The only scholarship facility supported by our college was the one which was funded by Government of Karnataka for the reserved categories.
Campus Life
There were students coming in from various states/ethnicity and backgrounds and the gender ratio was skewed based on the branches of engineering. The campus life was good with opportunities for extracurricular activities and we were allowed to participate in events held in other college fests.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facilities were decent and since I was not a resident of Hostel and only a visitor for a few times. The accommodation provided were decent and there were complaints regarding the quality of food served in the hostel. There were indoor games facility to relax and unwind within the hostel and the location was at a walkable distance.
Alumni/Alumna
We had limited interactions with seniors and the limited interactions were meaningful and useful in providing insights into the future course of action to be taken by us in shaping our careers.
Exam Structure
Since the time table for the externals were decided by VTU board, it was planned well to accommodate all shortfalls. The internal Lab exams and internals were placed well within the semesters. There used to be 2 internals on one day which would be a little hectic to manage all the subjects.
Admission
Further to the CET counselling in which I opted for this college, I was admitted into the college. The administration team handed over the requisite forms and detailed me about the procedure for admission. I had to submit a DD for the payment of college fees.
Faculty
There are quality teachers with absolute zeal and interest to teach students and impart quality education. Not everyone may have the same zeal and interest. Regarding the qualifications of the faculty, they are qualified as per mandate prescribed by VTU and are knowledgeable and learned people.
