Course Curriculum Overview
The teaching pedagogy in an IIM is very special and carefully curated. Most of the Lectures will be led through a case study and this is what separates the IIM from other institutions and colleges. You have the best minds in the country discussing and debating on subjects while students with rich work experience pour in their views from a practical angle as well. This sharpens and moulds our minds to think critically and strategically as well. This is why I chose an MBA from an IIM. To be around the best minds in the country. For the years 22-23, student to faculty ratio for a single common section was 1:65 All the faculties at IIM are industry-proven professors and PhD holders. They provide the best insights and moderate all the discussions while paving the way for more untapped areas. Exams are conducted at the middle and end of every semester. The institution follows the academic calendar without fail. Every exam will depend on the subject faculty and their methods.
Internships Opportunities
So this is again something that I cannot completely disclose as I have signed an NDA agreement which restricts me from disclosing the specifics. But, Summers are generally good. A lot of international companies do come for hiring and they also provide decent packages as well. In every summer internship, we have to make a project report to the campus and to the organization about our time there and about the nature of the work that we complete. It is very important to have a completed CV and constantly update it along the way.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for placements from Term 1. Unfortunately, under the NDA agreement signed with the placement committee, I cannot discuss the companies and their offers. Be assured that the placement committee will ensure that they place each and every student with respectable packages. My plan after completing my master's from IIM Sirmaur is to work in the field of operations. Good opportunities for operations do come for us from the industries.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is based on institution guidelines and usually increases every year. Your term fees will include everything from resources such as books, online materials, case studies, simulations, online access to publishers and resources etc. The term fee will also cover your hostel and transportation if necessary. However, your food is not considered in this and each student has to bear the expense separately. Students can apply and avail of all the available scholarships available to them. The institute will assist the students in applying for the same and will float all the opportunities that come their way. Apart from the government scholarships, some professors will also float private scholarships so that students can make the best out of all the opportunities. The placement committee will ensure all the students are placed for both summer and finals. unfortunately, stipends cannot be disclosed in an NDA agreement.
Campus Life
The annual fest of IIM Sirmaur is called 'Sierra' and usually it happens around March. It is a full two-day event and there are concerts and events on both days along with many management events. All the necessary subjects will be provided to you and we have a wide range of subject books available in the library as well. The same is also the case with journals. We also have access to e-libraries and journals from all over the world. Classrooms have amenities like Airconditioning, WiFi, Smart projectors, Mics and speakers, and comfortable speakers. Presentations can be done through dias and you also have access to a common computer as well. The campus does promote sports activities but not as much as it would in an undergraduate college.
Hostel Facilities
Since IIM Sirmaur still operates from a temporary campus, Boys' hostels are outside the campus. it's a twin sharing room for 1st years and all the 1st years stay together in a single building as of now. It is spacious and has all the necessary amenities with a late-night canteen which runs till 4 am. In the permanent campus, you will get a single room with AC and students can also apply for apartments inside the campus. The mess food is generally sub-par and the menu changes every month. The whole mess is outsourced through tenders and this is primarily the reason why the foods are bad. The registration process is done along with the admission process and it's a hassle-free process. barely takes more than 15mins. The hostel fee is included in the term fees and the term fee is included in student loans. Therefore affordability factor doesn't really hit.
Admission
The eligibility for admission into any IIM is through a common entrance exam called 'CAT'. The exam requires the candidate to complete undergraduate from a recognised university (the list is published through official websites and govt documents) The application form can be found on the website 'http://iimcat.ac.in' ; the Application fee will be around 2500rs and generally, the form is active from the 1st week of August. The application window is generally open till mid-September and the registered candidates can download their admit cards by the end of October. The candidates who have genuine reservation benefits can apply for the same while filling out the forms and necessary certificates like 'Income certificate' and 'caste certificate' should also be provided and uploaded during the registration process. The CAT registration process is very easy if all the necessary documents are in place. The registration process should not take more than 30mins.
Interview Experience
So for CAT 21, IIM sirmaur decided to go with the common admission process or 'CAP22' For CAP22, There was only one round and that was a Personal Interview. The Interview questions will vary for everyone but some general questions can be expected. 'Why MBA?' was a common question. In my case, the interviewer decided not to ask that question because I followed 'Commerce-BBA-and now MBA'. I was asked about my work experience and how I operated through covid. I was also asked about certain subject knowledge and one can certainly expect some cross-questioning as well. I prepared through IMS learning resources and Youtube with some offline experiences as well. It is very important that the candidate stays true to themselves. If candidates lie or if candidates try to make things up, there's a good chance panelists will figure that out and you won't probably get in. Be honest, and give smart answers. The panellists are looking for your communication skills and how you take up a question.
