Remarks
In all BVM is nice college and the reputed one. V V Nagar, the place is also nice, you can enjoy all sort of your young age hobbies there. About college management, BVM is managed by CVM trust all together and is managed very nicely. All kind of facilities that an engineer should have is provided in BVM.
Entrance Preview
I took GUJCET as an common entrance test as most of the colleges in Gujarat consider GUJCET. I scored 95 percentile in GUJCET. I choose BVM because of the reputation it has gain. BVM is one of the most reputed engineering colleges in Gujarat also its first ever engineering college of Gujarat state.
Course Curriculum Overview
We were following course curriculum decided by GTU. Emphasis was more on Theories than on practicals. Also course was not updated frequently as per technology. This might affect your knowledge as you were going to serve IT or electronics firms. I was in Electronics, and I remember that our course was having microcontrollers that are outdated in today’s world.
Internships Opportunities
In final year project, we had two options, UDP i.e., unified developed project and IDP i.e., Industrial Developed Project. As far as IDP was concerned, we have to search the companies that allows IDP by ourselves. I have not heard of any company that would pay stipend in internship. Still for UDP, you were assigned domain specific expert professors for guidance.
Placement Experience
This is where BVM is reputed about. Every year BVM achieves at least 60% of campus placements. Clearly speaking, if you are in top 30 of your class, than you would get one or the other company offers. There are many recruiters giving job offers but I am listing the famous ones below: TCS 3.3 lac Reliance 5 lac Alstom 5.5 lac GSFC 8.5 lac L&T 3.5 lac ABB 4 lac Sun Pharma Igate-Capgemini (3 lac) e-infochip (2 lac)
College Events
BVM has its annual cultural event named UDAAN that is celebrated every year in jan-feb along with the annual day. The event is not that entertaining as compared to the events of other self-finance colleges but still its only one in whole year..! So you are going to enjoy it by your own means. About participation in Udaan, BVM cultural committee members visits listed colleges in Gujarat and make available the entry for outsiders.
Fee Structure And Facilities
BVM has two quota, GIA and self-finance. If your merit is good and you got your preferred branch in GIA then nothing is better than that as you have to pay only 4500-5500 for an entire year. However for self-finance, the fees is almost similar as other self-finance colleges (about 80000-90000). But still you can choose BVM Self-finance instead of any other Self-finance college, as BVM can bring you placement opportunities much higher than those other self-finance colleges. Also there are many hostels near by the college where you can stay. In medium range, you can get one in 40000-50000 which includes snacks and 2 times of food, Wi-Fi, hot water facilities and others.
Fees and Financial Aid
Loan facility is not provided by college. As far as scholarships are concerned, there are several organizations/trusts that are providing this facility. As my college is GIA College, I have my friends who were from lower middle class family. They were getting at least 20000 scholarships collectively from different donating trusts. There are also scholarships donations made on the basis of casts. Along with this, on annual day, the toppers of class and the topper of individual subjects were given scholarship from CVM (Charotar Vidhya Mandal) trust which runs BVM.
Campus Life
As I mentioned above, BVM is located in Vallabh vidhyanagar, the city dreamed by Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel. You would get huge number of educational institutes, canteens, hostels, stationaries, etc. Thus you can imagine the average age of individual there..! Yes, you would find every one with bag on their back, all you find in V V nagar is groups of students. Entire city is filled by students that came from various parts of Gujarat. Thus, you won’t find any serious political involvement there. Still, local politics is as usual as it is at other places. The environment there is very pleasant. You will love to stay there and that period of your life would be the memorable period and can't be replaced by anything. All the means of entertainment that any youngster require is available in V V nagar. There are not any famous spots to roam around, but still you would love to stay there. Also, gender ratio is almost equal i.e., you would find almost equal number of girls and boys. Opposite to my college was Shastri Ground, one of the biggest ground in Anand-V V Nagar. You will see people playing almost all kind of sports there like cricket, football, basketball, bad-Minton, etc. Also that ground was equally shared by all the colleges that were under CVM trust. Thus, you would find sport events in Shastri ground for almost whole year. About Labs, I already mentioned that BVM is not that equipped as any other self-finance college, but still you can perform your practical well without much hurdles. About Competitions, BVM is organizing an event called Udaan every year. This event is having various competitions within, almost for every engineering field. Also, there are competitions using your non-technical skills like debate.
Hostel Facilities
BVM is located in Vallabh vidhyanagar. Now if you search for this place, what you would get is educational institutes, canteens and hostels. Thus, for hostel and food you have number of options. Also all the things that you may want like cinemas, malls, brand stores etc. everything you will find in V V nagar. Hostels of all the range is available in V V nagar, meaning that, you can get hostels at 20000 also and at 100000 also. I stayed in middle class hostel so I will elaborate that experience here. I paid 48000 as my hostel fees. This includes two time food, Hot water facility, Wi-Fi, and gym. There are hostels that provide several more facilities like Air conditioner, refrigerator, clothes wash and ironing etc. However it depends on how much you can afford.
Alumni/Alumna
I was enrolled in GIA quota where I found almost everybody damn sincere about their future. All the students had got the admission in GIA quota only because of their higher merit rank. This proves that they were serious about studies and not interested to get involved in any other activity that would distract them. No Ragging, No Harassment in BVM. I haven't experienced any rude behavior from my seniors. Instead I have found them nurturing freshers and juniors in to the respective domains by organizing sessions and technological seminars. Also I had seniors as my hostel mates, I use to consult them for books I should refer any many other information, other than related to studies.
Exam Structure
About exams, obviously has nothing to do with the halls you are sitting in. Question papers were designed by selected professors of GTU afflicted colleges. Theories were having weightage of 70 marks. Frankly speaking, you can clear the exams if you go through last 5 examination papers (not always). Labs were good but not as of self-finance colleges. Still you can perform your practical well as almost all the required instruments were available in labs. Classrooms are still old fashioned, even fans and chairs are carry forward from years (Only for GIA). However, classrooms of self-finance departments are well maintained.
Admission
BVM is afflicted with Gujarat Technological University (GTU) thus Entire admission process was governed by an online website of GTU gujacpc.nic.in. The admission process was smooth and well managed by GTU. Step to step information and continuous guidance was given by help centres of GTU. Also were given one booklet at the starting of the admission process which explains all the steps of admission process in detail like colleges under GTU, cutoffs of colleges in past 2 years, engineering fields in college, location, fees etc.
Faculty
As BVM is GIA institute, faculties were highly qualified but when it comes to knowledge transfer, every faculty was not to the mark as expected. Still the concepts and fundamentals were much clear of faculties and that was very helpful during final year project guidance.
