Remarks
The college is better than any other regional colleges in Surat. Though it has some of its own drawbacks overall I can suggest someone this College to someone.
Entrance Preview
I gave JEE exam in which I scored 63 marks. I opt for this college i.e SVNIT because it contains the tag of NIT and as we all know the level of NITs and IITs are always a notch higher than other regional colleges.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is quite good, it is similar to NET GATE exam's syllabus in many ways. But, I found that many things in the curriculum are repetitive from semesters. other than, it is fine. it includes the electives such as industrial engineering which is of mechanical department and computer programming which is of Applied maths department. In the final year, we have to select from two electives: Analytical Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry. the curriculum is good from the research point of view
Internships Opportunities
Yes, our college provides summer internship in which we have to fill a form filling up the details of CGPA scored in last semesters. we have to fill in the area of interest and the faculty under which we are willing to work. Then, a presentation or interview is carried out, through which you can get selected. If selected, then on the satisfactory completion of 2 months of internship, 10,000 rupees and certificate are given. But, during the internship period, not much attention is paid to the student.
Placement Experience
There are ample no. of companies for engineering course but lesser for M.Sc people. Most of the companies demand Coding. For Our MSc, companies like Asain paints, Godrej, Akash Institute(6 lakh), Catlyser(5 lakh), Wipro, Endurance, Future First(10 lakh), D.E Shaw(15 lakh), etc Last year only two were placed as the rest wanted to go ahead for research.
College Events
We have technical and cultural fests such as Mindbend, Sparsh, Kashish(for freshers), Ignis, Prakriti by Scosh and so on. Sparsh is one of the biggest events of all. Many sponsors are called and investment is done in large amount. Even big celebrities are called for celebrity night. large no. of students take participation either in the activity itself or the committee made to synchronize the events.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is feasible, not so expensive. My fees is 70,000 Rs per annum (I belong to general category) but for those who enroll from 2016 onward their fees is raised to 1,25,000 Rs. Whereas for SC, ST and physically handicapped students get full fees waiver. Even the remission of fees is done for economically backward class. the fess is divide into Five years. It has to be paid at the beginning of the year.
Fees and Financial Aid
As I belong to the general category, I haven't got any scholarships yet. But, my friends who belongs to SC, ST and Obc gets a very good amount of scholarship. Education loan is given to all students but there is a criteria to score some amount of pointers for that.
Campus Life
Campus life is quite good. The college takes very strict actions against Ragging. There are more males than female. Students studying in SVNIT comes from various parts of India and also we have DASA and NRI quota. The extracurricular activities are performed very well, college gives active participation in all. Many workshops are also arranged regarding Dance, coding, etc which becomes very useful to students.
Hostel Facilities
Though I don't live in a hostel, according to my friends who live in a hostel, the facilities and food are quite good. The hostel rooms are kept clean and they are given single room per student. Till now, it never happened that hostel rooms run short because there are around 10 hostels in the campus so the PG situation never quite happens
Alumni/Alumna
My experience with college seniors and alumni had given many true bits of advice which become helpful in shaping out my career. they have played a very important role wherever necessary. They have given guidance about how to face interview and pass the tests
Exam Structure
There are total four exams a year. In one semester, we have mid sem in the middle of a semester of 30 marks and end sem at the end of 50 marks. The exam and labs are quite hectic. for chemistry students like us, chemistry labs are very tiring and hectic. We are also evaluated on the basis of attendance, journals, practical exams and viva.
Admission
First, I filled the admission form available online on the SVNIT website. the form released around at the end of May. Form demanded the GUJCET and JEE marks. Then, we were called for a CAT(Common Admission Test) exam. it contains simple basic question from 11th and 12th. it is important to note here that it contains questions of physics, Chemistry and Maths. So, the student who took biology find it difficult. then, on the basis of Form details and CAT score, three waiting list was declared one by one. my name was on second waiting list. So, I went with all my original documents for verification and paid the fees. The administration was good.everybody was helpful and patient.
Faculty
All faculties are quite qualified but only few of them are interested to teach. those who teach, teach too well and others don't teach at all. Few are qualified and interested too but they lack the capability of teaching. I think we need a lot of improvement in this section. The teaching standards are mediocre, you have to be prepared for self-study.
