NIT Jamshedpur - a place for placements

I was interested in Electrical Engineering right from my JEE days and therefore chose this branch. The faculty-student ratio is nice. Sometimes, two teachers take turns before mid sem and after mid-semester depending on expertise which gives us the best possible results. The faculties are well qualified from prestigious IITs and NITs. The term exam are every 5 months and studying a week or two helps to manage a grade point of 8+.

The core companies are there throughout the year. Reliance, Exxon, and Axxela are there for the core children. The noncore companies like Cisco, Amazon, Atlassian, and Arcesium give you big-money internships. You have to maintain basic cgpa criteria and should have a project in your cv. For example, if you are going for an SDE role, you should have a web development project for a better chance. Moreover, DSA is very important for cracking the online examination of this internship.

The placement scenario is quite good. Big companies recruit from here. The student is eligible for the 7th semester. The highest package was around 83 lakhs and the average is around 13-14 lakhs. More than 100 companies arrive here with jobs and internships and the percentage placement is over 95 percent. I am planning to work as a software development engineer after graduation.

The fee structure for a general candidate who does not take fee remission is 1,04,000 per semester including hostel and mess fees. However, for people having income less than 5 lakh 1/3 of the fees is remitted and for people having income less than 3 lakh 2/3 is remitted. Moreover, there are schemes for OBC candidates like Kalyan where they get a scholarship and for SC/ST candidates no tuition fees are charged.

The cultural fest is Culfest held in October/November and the technical fest is Ojass held in August. The books are ample in the library with books on every subject. English and Hindi newspaper is also available per day if anyone wants to read them. You can issue books for 15 days without a fine. The classroom has projectors for better audio-visual teaching and ACs are there in every room. Most of the popular sports are played including cricket, football, tennis, table tennis, etc. and clubs are there for quizzing, dancing, singing, acting, and technical clubs are there for overall technical development. NSS is run by the students for teaching moral values and Sankalp is there if anyone wants to teach children voluntarily.

The hostel for boys is double sharing for the first year and single sharing after the second year. The hostels are a state of art, very beautiful, and well-managed. The mess is not very nice in terms of quality but better than other colleges. The hostel is provided to you at the time of admission.

I gave JEE Mains and got 97.98 percentile with a rank of 19768. The application form was on the site of official JEE Main website. After the results, JOSSA counseling was done where we filled our choices and then seat was allotted based on availability.
