Remarks
Where are the trees? You don't find a single shade shed all around the campus except for the burning floor that would melt you in 20 mins if stayed outside on a typical day. The university doesn't allow students to get their own transport maybe 'cause it doesn't have a proper parking space and it's such a drag taking the transport(bus) provided by the University 'cause it is usually crowded. And the worst part is that the interaction with opposite sex is still considered taboo inside the campus and if happened to get caught doing so would put you on your knees apologizing to the director for being social.Good going, Sathyabama.
Entrance Preview
Universities/Colleges in my state offering this course only took students from math background. After an hour of family drama, my paternal uncle, an IT guy, suggested me of Sathyabama University, Chennai and bragged about how popular this place is back in his days. I did some research, by which I mean surfing on the Internet, on this University and miraculously took a liking towards the curriculum they had! Next thing I know I was in the University in person getting an admission after a little walk-through from the administrator suggesting me against getting an admission in the college residential. I regretted my decision after a few days there though.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course I chose covers computing alongside biology giving a wide wing of opportunities for a opportunist like me. It is mostly practical with a dry lab and a wet lab per semester. There haven't been any Research Initiatives sharing my interests. I wouldn't actually claim there wasn't any initiatives at all only that they are in favor for those pursuing research in wet laboratory. Only in the 6th semester the electives kick in corresponding to the curriculum they had at the time of my admission. Electives indulge students towards IT or as a researcher as in other bio groups.
Internships Opportunities
No, the college doesn't provide an internship. I am pretty sure it wouldn't be of much use even if they had provided one considering it's infrastructure.
Placement Experience
I'm at the end of my 4th semester as I write this so I don't really know much about placements but they do give placement training classes once in a while staring 3rd semester. I heard from the faculty that placements have dropped from 75% to around 50% in my two years in the University. The average package would be 3.5L/annum if placed in a good company. Major companies, as far as I know, included TCS, Wipro, Amazon and some minor core companies.
College Events
There are a bunch of clubs which aren't mostly active but do organize some small scale events for its members. There aren't any fests when I got admitted but my juniors had one which was lame though. Some Bollywood actress showed up for that cultural fest and they had a Asian NBA kinda thing organized when I was in my 2nd semester.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It wasn't very much expensive keeping in mind the facilities and the quality of food provided by the University. I was 2,00,000 INR per year for 4 years which had to be paid in a single payment every year. Students claiming hostel facilities had to pay 60,000 per year.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college provides scholarship for one student per department who tops it. They did facilitate for taking loans from the banks. Neither had I availed a loan not I had a scholarship.
Campus Life
Not much opportunities I reckon as most of the clubs aren't active, infact, the one I'm in had never been active.
Hostel Facilities
As mentioned earlier I stayed in the hostel for an year and that wasn't a pleasant experience. In fact I regret staying in the hostel for the rooms are dirty and not so well maintained. According to the Engineering standards, well, as far as I know, sharing a room should be limited to two pupils but in this case it was 7 person sharing with just one toilet and the worst part is the ventilation or no ventilation at all. It was 60,000 INR a year which included messy rooms, egoist warden and his thug subordinates, NO WI-FI, restricted access to all facilities like dhobi, canteen. Food was a relief in that mess as it was hygienic and was served hot.
Exam Structure
They exams weren't very frequent. They usually give a month window before setting up the next examination. Labs were pertained to 2 half-a-day sessions per week.
Faculty
Most of the faculty are post graduates in their respective fields, experienced. All they lacked was communication skills (some). Some I'd say were just overqualified.
