Remarks
The order of discipline is both what's good and bad about the college. The extravaganza of the fests is what I love the most of all the events. The freedom to choose electives whenever I want to is a relief. The hectic schedule of exams and assignments at times takes over my mind, however, all of it prepares us for the future. The beauty of the campus is very impressive. The diversity of students in the college is a factor that contributes to the overall growth of the students.
Entrance Preview
I wrote JEE MAINS in 2015 but could not get a decent college, so I dropped a year (2015-2016). Next year, in 2016, I wrote JEE MAINS along with other various entrance exams including VITEEE. I could not get into a college of my choice through JEE MAINS so I decided to go with VIT, which I was eligible for, because of the rank I got in VITEEE. There weren't any subsequent interviews for the admission as it is totally merit-based. I checked the MHRD rankings before finalizing it and thus, I am here. I chose the engineering course because I always thought of it when I was in school.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course of my field, i.e. CSE, is quite nice. There is much emphasis on practical learning and developing research papers. The University follows a Fully Flexible Credit System so courses from all other branches count as elective options. I haven't yet got a chance to make any projects but students are free to make their projects any time they want. I love the way, how theoretical concepts are interlinked with practical examples.
Internships Opportunities
They do provide an internship from what I have heard from my seniors. I am not very familiar with the details because I am in my second year and yet to join an internship. The average stipend varies as per the role and the company that is taking students. Some of my seniors got PPO from the companies, they interned in.
Placement Experience
They say that the college provides 100% placements but I'm not too sure about it. All big names in the field of IT like Microsoft, eBay, Amazon, Oracle, Flipkart come for campus placements as super dream companies offering packages of 15lakhs. Mass recruiters like Accenture, TCS, cognizant also come. Not too sure about the average packages. However, they offer, a minimum of Rs. 3 lakh.
College Events
The college hosts, Riviera, a 4-day cultural fest, in which many celebrities come and perform. Those 4 days are pure bliss because the campus is highly decorated and there is no tension of studies around. It is South India's best cultural fest and various students from other colleges come to our fest. There is a huge footfall of people, from around South India. Last year, we had Shankar Mahadevan's performance for our star night. We have GraVITas as our annual Technical fest. It is organized for 3 days, in which various workshops and seminars are organized with the people of the industry. It is a 3-day event and is very successful. Many technical competitions are organized. College is very helpful in organizing these events, however, students are the ones, who primarily manage all the work.
Fee Structure And Facilities
There is no defined fee structure of the college because the fee of the student is decided on the basis of the rank, a student gets in the VITEEE exam. Well, even after getting a good rank, the fee is pretty expensive. I am not sure about my fee because that is handled by my parents, however, from what I have heard, the fee can shoot up to Rs. 25 lakh for 4 years exclusive of other fees.
Fees and Financial Aid
The scholarship is provided in two categories. 1. For students having a rank under 10k in the entrance exam of VIT (VITEEE). 2. Students who are under the top 10 of their branch. I'm receiving the scholarship in the first category as I got a rank under 10000.
Campus Life
There are more than 100 student clubs and chapters run by the college students with faculty in charge. One is sure to get ample opportunities to explore their inner talents. I am not very associated with these clubs because of my laziness. The facilities for all the clubs are excellent. Be it a sound system for Dance practice or a mic system for the music club, everything is provided by the college.
Hostel Facilities
Yes, I'm a hosteller. There were various options for one to choose from, for the room type. Rooms are available on a single and sharing basis too. AC facility is also there for the rooms if someone wishes to avail it. The fee for the hostel varies according to the room type. There are options for mess too, like, North Indian, South Indian, etc. Overall, food is about okay.
Alumni/Alumna
My interaction with my seniors is quite good. Yes, college does organize interaction events once in a while for the seniors to share their experience in the corporate world. College faculties also tell us about our seniors and their success once in a while within the class to motivate us. Yes, the alumni contribute to the overall development of the college.
Exam Structure
The exams and labs never seem to dry up so it's pretty hectic at any time of the year. Like, almost every month we have practicals going on, apart from the assignments/ projects submission. So, on any given day, one can find a student loaded with at least, 1 work apart from academics and so yeah, it is hectic.
Faculty
Well, I won't say that the faculty is quite experienced or anything because it varies from department to department and teacher to teacher. Some teachers are very experienced and have their Ph.D. in different fields and some teachers have done only masters. The level of interaction is also different for teachers, like some teachers are very student-friendly and some maintain a distance. If there is any course-related query, every teacher is ready to help. Overall, the faculty is satisfactory.
